WiseOne's Comments, I love Google, but this scares me deeply. One company having all that information in their hands is NEVER good. I think Google should remember their own motto: "don't be evil." This is a great stride toward actually being evil or having the ability to truly be evil once all that info is in their hands!

I wont ever use that crap myself myself one hacker and your stuff could be all over

The only thing of Google's I will use is their search. I won't even consider business software that requires internet access to use. My software and information stays on my computer.

On some levels, this is appealing. My two primary concerns are as stated in the article; security and confidentiality. The security would have to be absolutely "air tight" and I'm not convinced anyone is able to do that. For example, even major financial institutions have occasional problems with data breaches and the like.
As for the confidentiality, if they put in an effective "business firewall" I think they wouldn't have a problem with regulatory agencies. -
For anyone who knows more about IT stuff than myself, how would this be any different than Go To My PC that's advertised all the time on Sirius?

Talk about big brother is watching!...or...why not everyone order another credit card with you being responsible for the debt and Google allowed to charge on it...that way we wouldn't have to wait more than a week or 2 to be bankrupt permanently.

With data breaches happening every day, there is no way I would use this or any other services out there. The best alternative to backing up or accessing your files, is putting them on a cd or a flash drive(non-moving parts). You can carry them with you and access them on any computer. You can only blame yourself, if you lose it.

This is an old idea that has been kicked around over and over. Basically you would sit at what's called a dumb terminal and access data from a server/mainframe. Your PC would be gutless so the server would do most of the work for you. Its a throwback to early office networks. I doubt many would really be interested in this kind of venture since your pc would not be able to do much without an internet connection, let alone run modern games and what not. For a pure business application it has its uses but for the overall population I doubt it would fly.

Google actually advertises it as a backup service. They're not trying to be evil or anything here. You can just as easily encrypt your data with AES and store the key somewhere on a flash drive so Google only sees one encrypted file in your "drive". This "Guardian" seems to be way off, and this isn't close to making the PC obsolete. They're just offering space to store files, not some sort of terminal server.
