So, you saying Google just the VIN # or, is there anything added to that, such as "truck ID #" or something?
Google your vin number before you buy!

Yes, this is great advice because you can often times find out very important details before the purchase. The guy selling it has no idea that you saw pics of when he bought it.

no truck number, i just googled the vin number. if you've owned your truck for awhile, carfax may be all you get. but if your buying from a dealer, if the place where they got the truck from tried to sell it online, you may luck out. that was the case with me. hey if it don't work, you're not out anything, if it does, may give you leverage when you go to make an offer, if you know what they paid for the truck. granted they have to put money in it sometimes but gives a good starting point.

As a normal course, Carfax does not provide information for commercial vehicles (at least for big trucks), but that information may be included due to the way Carfax receives information from various states (Carfax pays the states for "bulk" downloads of VINs, so a truck's VIN may be included even though it was not specifically requested). Having said that, when I purchased my truck, Carfax was extremely useful and had information on all the trucks I was considering.bullhaulerswife Thanks this. -

So in other words, you cannot resell the service they provide? I know some dealerships use Carfax and print the report and tape it to the window. Wondering if that qualifies?
