    Good day gentlemen,

I have posted a few times here and you have all been really helpful....thanks again. I will be starting a 5 WEEK 160 hour cdl school here in about two weeks. I would love/need to run the western states and I will haul anything under the sun I have no preferences as of now. I have found a few companies that run the I-5 corridor and into Idaho , Nevada and Arizona but they all want at least 6 months experience.........EXCEPT FOR GOOD OL' GORDON TRUCKING. I have read more negative things about this company since they were bought by Heartland Express than I can shake a stick at. Should I just bite the bullet for six months.....doesn't seem all that fair to them but im not sure what else to do. I can "survive" off of $500 a week but that is just scraping by. I just need to get my foot in the door....that is my priority right now. What do you guys think? Lets hear it............:)

    Thanks,

    James

If you could get onto one of Gti's dedicated paid by the hour fleets it could work out well. Day cabs out of Rancho.

What product for tanker you thinking?

    petersen5710 Thanks this.

KKW Trucking runs Western 11 states and hires new CDL grads.

Many companies hire new CDL grads even though their website has "experience required." Many drivers miss out on some good jobs by not applying.

    Gardner Trucking
    YRC Freight
    National Carriers has CA regional
    TWT Refrigerated Service

AS for tanker jobs, once you get the diploma in hand, go knock on some doors.

You mind me asking who? This is what I am looking for 6-12 months and west coast I-5.

If you really want one of the few your are talking needing 6 months experience I would recommend Watkins and Shepard they were my first company and I was treated well.

I know a few people from GTI who are still there and say things go up and down weekly one said he finally sees the light and hopes things get better. I know a few Heartland drivers who say things have also gotten worse on their end just the fact of 2 companies merging, Just remember when driving 6 months will see like 3 for me time flies when I am on the road.

    Thanks

    Alone,

Yes I will be going to the school in Santa Maria. Truck Driver Institute is their name. Have you heard anything good or bad about them? I did some research and couldn't find much either way....

    Thanks,

    James

I live in SLO county and they are the only place reasonably close by I could commute to daily. I would probably go somewhere else if I had the opportunity just because I wasn't able to find much information on them. Just what I was told at the school really, which wasn't much. I went by their lot where the two training trucks are kept. They are two older trucks I think, maybe ~15 years old. I'm not sure on the years or transmissions or anything else. They are full sized rigs with sleepers/ tandem axles though. Trailers are also full sized with tandem axles (I would estimate 48'-53' in length).

Edit: the lot where the trucks are kept is kind of an industrial area, I don't know if they train there or somewhere else.

Santa Maria to Rancho Cucamonga would be a heck of a daily commute.
