My son-in-law applied to them and they said anywhere from 30 to 32 cents per mile depending on the area of the country he was willing to take. He said thanks but no thanks.

if there is any way you can stick it out financially, you should try to stick it out til you reach 1 year there. it looks better on your record, and will make it better for you to get another job. i have been guilty of not sticking it out myself...but try....it would be in your best interest to do so.Last edited: Apr 13, 2013
LaBubba Thanks this. -
Is this 6 months including your training, or 6 months solo?

Job hopping isn't the big issue that people would have you believe. Especially if you are moving from a company that pulls dry van to flatbed or tanker. As long as you don't have a lot of I worked here for a week and quit, then worked here a month and quit you will be fine. Especially if your work history before driving is solid. Driving is a different animal profession wise. There don't seem to be a lot of companies that truly want to keep drivers until they retire. There are some though.
Also ignoring a companies experience requirements is not likely going to work. Trust me I've tried. I have 8 months experience and I have been told personally by the local company I work for that on the day I hit 12 months I'm hired. It's an insurance thing. I'm not saying companies never make exceptions on experience, but I am saying that barring some huge freight increase it ain't likely. Note: Smaller family type carriers might be more likely to make exceptions I've not applied to any around me because they all run paper logs. -
Companies will count from the hire date whether it was training or not.

Ignoring the requirements worked in all three job offers for me. All three wanted at least one year experience but offered me a job with 8 months.Chinatown Thanks this.

I recently saw Panther expedite running ads for CDL A drivers with 6 months experience

I will have to disagree about the job hopping part. Although it might be on a case by case basis, if you came to me and you had 10 driving jobs in two years one of my first thoughts would be "how long before he leaves us?" Who wants to hire someone thats likely to leave because the next company down the road has better looking mud flaps? Why would you not want to run for a company that uses paper logs?LaBubba Thanks this.

10 driving jobs in 2 years isn't job hopping that's job deadbeating totally different animal. Anything under 5 jobs in 3 years with a clean record and you will be fine.

A lot of places would consider 4 jobs in three years job hopping but no matter. Why do you have an aversion to paper logs if I might ask?
