I honestly only want to drive 1800 to 2000 miles a week and it's easier to do that with a company on e-logs that one on paper logs if you catch my drift.
Got 6 months exp. Time for a better job yet?

Weather should be good for the next 6 months. 6 months is plenty for some folks. Others need a few years. -

To the OP I would say get atleast a year under your belt. a good summer and winter seasoning under your belt....it will look better and give you even better job offers...might not be the best but better than what you will have now...now here is the second thing you will be looking at....6 more puts you into sep.... freight will start to pick upi for the holidays which might help get in a truck but than after the high you might be last to get the loads but that depends on the company and what they run how they run.....but than again jan is about the worst time to get a job....lol

I appreciate all the replies. As far as work history I was a glass installer prior to driving and was at my last co 9 years. The co before that for 3. I am more than willing to stick with someone who treats me far. I'm going to call on a few ads I have seen come Monday. I'll even try a few that say 9 months or a years exp. If they say call back when I have the time in so be it. I'm getting to a tight spot between my last job an the pay cut I took to start driving (half the check). I like my job and I have a good head on my shoulders, I will make a good driver for someone. Hopefully I update this thread soon with an awesome offer I got! Drive safe folks.

At six months you're usually eligible to become a trainer/mentor, which will increase your pay dramatically. I've had terrible luck with trainers though so I can't say as though I'd recommend going that route. There are step up OTR companies that will hire with 3-6 months OTR, some will even take you fresh out of training. Your best bet is to go old fashioned and grab a few hire books from the pilot. they're chock full of step up otr companies that hire with less than one year ptr

Get your year in and go LTL or find yourself a dedicated route with consistent pay.
-
Shoot, right now I would apply at all the LTL's. It's hiring season and when it hits the fan they might give you a call even though you don't have the required experience. If you don't hear back keep trucking where your at and reapply down the road.

I changed job 7 months after completing CDL school. Started pulling tankers and have been here for 1.5yrs.now. You never know until you ask. Companies won't be beating your door down for you to go to work for them. You have to knock on theirs! Good Luck and Keep it Safe!
