Got 7 Months Flatbed Experience.....Gypsum Express?? Boyd??TMC?? Percentage or CPM???

Shaking my head at this so called tarp "pay", unreal. Maybe the bosses should go out and see how long it can take to tarp a load nicely.
Makes sense why I see so many junk tarp jobs though, for that kinda money I would let the standards slip too after a while.

 

Have you looked into McElroy Truck Lines? I worked for them a few years back. They are an okay company. Not sure what they pay now, but they start rookies out at 40cpm back a few years ago. Probably more than that now, since you have experience they would start you out at more cpm i'm sure.

 

They actually aren't paid anything simply for preservation of company policies. Its fairly simple at BTC. If you do your job the way that you agree to do it when you are hired and put through orientation then you really shouldn't have an issue. Its the guys that get out there and try to cut corners that usually end up having an issue with the road team. I know a lot of those guys and they really aren't that hard to get along with at all as long as you do your best to try and do your job as safe as possible.

 

As far as TMC goes, I went to Iowa for their orientation "w/30 others". From what I seen, it's not hard to get on at all. Out of the 30+, 3 of us were vets. For the record, they said they couldn't hire me because I was a Disabled Combat Vet. I had all the necessary paperwork that srated I was clear to work but they told me they couldn't take the risk. They only want vets that set behind a desk, vets that actually fault in combat are useless to them. Just my opinion.

 

I live in Miami FL, graduate next week. If my application with Melton doesn't pan out by then I may drive up to Alabama and start in the Birmingham area knocking on doors for a rookie flatbed driver job. Seems most of the bigger carriers have a terminal in Alabama. For now still holding out for Melton.

 

Living in FL its going to be very hard getting on with a flatbed outfit that has any kind of decent home time. There really isnt a whole lot of flatbed freight heading in or out of FL on a daily basis.

 

Not to hijack the thread OP, but I've got almost 2 yrs exp. with van/reefer and was looking into TMC. What other companies offer weekly home time like TMC that are good learning companies? I live near Rochester, NY

Unfortunately, the hiring line for BTC in the North East is PA. they will hire experienced drivers out of NJ and DE but that's it.

 

So move out of Jersey and NY and back into the land of the (sort of) free in PA! Problem solved...
