It's good if you don't mind hard work, at Cypress we don't tarp a lot but other Flatbed companies like Melton do a lot so, the tarp alone can discourage you. The primary reason why I'm considering only staying for 6 months is because it's dirty work, don't come to flatbed wearing nice shoes on, and a nice shirt, they'll get dirty real quick, ask me how I know LMAO... The other reason is my goal was always to get into Tanker, me going to Cypress was just to get the experience. Plus their front-facing cameras help a lot at my decision to bounce at 6 months. I don't know where you live but If you're considering joining them, they're decent, they have different lanes, Florida only lane if you live in Florida, and they have a lot of freight. It's just that the front-facing camera is not it for me but it may not bother you, try them out.

I commend you on your positive outlook on your new career, and I sincerely wish you the best.
I drove for Cypress back around 2013ish. I did the gipsom (drywall) run. We worked 16 hours a day, drove for 14. Paid by the load, driving the most non-road worthy piles of poop. After 4 months I left.
As of my time there, the Penlands owned Cypress and purchased Ploof which became Sun Belt (I believe). I guess the male siblings were all Marines. If you werent a Marine, its a major strike against you. I slaved under Bob Pace and was verbally assaulted, like all the drivers, by his cowardice and worthless ###. He claimed to be a retired Marine, but a couple other drivers and office people invited him outside to finish that current discussion. He never backed up his words. When I quit, I went to his little window (youll see what I mean) and let him and all within earshot know that he was a coward and never a Marine. He just sat there and listened...because he hides behind the Pendlans and I was a free agent. Im sure he left by now. To be completely honest, I hope someone gutted him like a deer and left him to bleed out. Maybe the flatbed side was/is run better?
I wish you the best with them and also out there exploring our beautiful nation. If youd like to chat, send me a PM and ill help you however I can.

Yeah, I guess it would be inevitable that you're gonna get dirty doing flatbed...at least you don't have to tarp much. I heard a while back that that FL only lane was only for more senior drivers, can anyone choose that?

Driving is the easy part, backing is the hardest. Why do you think we call moron drivers steering wheel holders - driving is like a large pickup with a trailer so anyone can do it.

Now that said, you already seem to have a grip on things, however, if your load is shifting in any way shape or form, you need to work on that, nothing more dangerous than something falling off a truck and causing an accident or killing someone.

Stay there for at least a year.

    Why?

    See below ...
I know many fleets who used to hire at 6 to 8 months will not touch anyone without a year or 18 months of clean driving experience, this is where the money is, experience, and no incidents of any sort. Their insurance is less than another fleet and it gives them an advantage which almost all of them pass onto the drivers in the form of green leaves.

So the OP, get 12 to 18 months of experience, which helps land the next job.

    lual Thanks this.
