Some questions to ask Fleet Owners:
How many trucks do you have?
How many are leased to the company _______?
Are you leased on with any other companies?
Who is responsible for paying for maintenance?
How long have you been a fleet owner?
Will you provide me names and numbers with current and former drivers?
What is your policy for home time? What is the companies policy for home time? (Be sure to ask the company's recruiter this also.)
Who will pay for orientation expenses?
Where is orientation? (Be sure to ask the company's recruiter this also.)
How old are your trucks?
What equipment does the truck have on it?
When will I get my first paycheck?
How will I get paid - frequency, direct deposit, etc etc etc?
What will the rate of pay be?
In your case, I would ask point-blank - what do you mean by as hard as you want?

Hey everyone,I talk with the O/O and got more info. Its a 60/40 spilt and he pays all fuel and tolls which is great news.So far everything is looking good and I should be on the road by next week. Thanks to all for the great info I got so far.
jtrnr1951 and The Challenger Thank this. -
This is excellent news!!!
I would like to thank everyone for the info they have shared also. Keep us updated.

60/40 and he pays fuel - that is unusual.
Another thing to find out - does he have an written agreement with the driver or is it verbal. If its not written - run don't walk. -
It could be the driver gets the 40 which is still exceptionally good . Most drivers paid percentage don't get over 25% .
I can see the owner paying fuel for deadhead home . -
What is it that doesnt sound "right"?

Very few expediters are running as hard as they want unless they don't want to run very hard . A lot are sitting 3 or more days between loads .
-
When you cry and complain like alot I hear of ,
I would set your whining ### too
refuse "ANY" load and a broker will never forget it. Trucks that take good and bad, never sit very long.
We do the same thing here, lately we have had alot of double and triple runs loaded on one 53' that cut out 3 of the straight trucks.
They wont pay full Hot Shot rate on all 3 but the rate jump is well worth a team to get all of them they can.
If a Contractor is in good with the brokers and has drivers that roll,it is VERY COMMON to run teams out of hours in that business.
Cant run a team out of hrs ? Wanna Bet!?!

You obviously have no knowledge of expediting . They sit 2 or 3 days with no load offers .Native Dancer Thanks this.
