I've been to those parking areas. I don't sleep much, so didn't have to worry about being there too long.
Last night I slept 5 hours which was a shocker, because my average is 4 hours a night. I even bragged to my wife about getting 5 hours sleep.

I never knew there was some kind of time limit attached to these pikes. So I guess it doesn't matter if you purchased fuel, food, or perhaps were too sick to drive any further. They get ya coming, going, and when you're parked, and even after you leave the state (IFTA). All these pleasures for under $2 a mile.

Don't you know in Tennessee you really aren't supposed to park overnight at a rest area? I had found this out recently. It's actually a state law there. I always wondered why the rest area in Memphis coming in from Mississippi was always so empty. Come to find out, it's state law that it's 2 hr parking. It's only in Memphis they enforce it. Other rest areas across the state have never given me problems. That Memphis one, they write your truck number down and everything. After 2 hrs they run you off. I didn't know Jersey was like that because I've never slept in the service area. It isn't like there's always available parking there anyway. New Jersey is a money grab state to the max, and I've heard other drivers get cited for sleeping in rest/service areas elsewhere so I guess any way a state can get some cash

I haven't been back east in many years, but I know that Virginia used to have a 2 hour time limit posted at their rest areas. It wasn't unusual for cops to roust truckers from their sleep, give them a parking ticket and make them leave. Even telling them that you would be violating HOS didn't matter, out you went. They even did it at the rest area on I-81 that was supposedly a truck only rest area.

Oh yeah I forgot about Virginia. The DOT ran me off from one of their rest areas once. Got a ticket for parking at the Walmart in Wytheville. I had to get coolant there because I had broke down around that area. I told him I was getting coolant. He was like, ok no problem. That fool still wrote me a ticket lol

Had that happen ONCE as a company driver and once as an owner op.

The company gig was a 5 stop run. My travel agent was on holiday and I had to deal with another. I called at the 4th stop, asking about which way to head when empty. Dispatch got rude, “Are you empty? Why are you calling me when you are not empty???” CLICK . So be it.

I called when I was empty. Dispatch started with something about “stand by…”. No, there is no stand by, my clock is ticking. This is exactly why I called earlier. I knew that when it comes time to make a decision, you would freeze. Why do you answer the phone? You are too afraid to make a decision, making you worthless. So, why did you answer the phone? Make a decision right now.

I was in LytleTX, he told me to head to Laredo, but as I was 15 miles out from Laredo, the next load came from Houston. I did get paid for the bouncing.

Usually, the way it works is you’re going to get crapped on when your travel agent is on holiday. Don’t be nice.

Just pay the ticket and keep prrof the ticket was paid FOREVER. If you can't prove the ticket was paid bad consequences for your credit can happen. I don't know if the state could suspend your license or something. There are lots of bad consequences but they are usually credit score type things.

And that's when I tell the company to consume a sack of Richards and go work for an outfit that's responsible and competent.

They put it on my window, I lost the ticket somewhere in the truck. Or maybe trashed it by accident, I will look for it later and try to send it to the company.
