I got a pre hire out of USX today and I'm on the fence about it a little. My only reason being the team thing. If there are any USX drivers out there that can explain the 8 week team thing a little bit I would appreciate it. My biggest concern is that they won't team up people living close together. Also does anyone know how much home time is typical during the 3weeks training and 8 weeks team before solo. So if I choose USX I can arrange everything with finances and all.

I am running teams for UsX. So do not let this sound bias in anyway.
If you are thinking of running solo @ UsX... Then I would suggest a different company. UsX is gearing up for teams only (soon enough it will be).
If you want to go teams then UsX is excellent.Coreyfield Thanks this. -
There is no home time during training unless it is during Christmas and then they do get the students home who want to go home. As for the teaming afterwards, I think I heard (from the training department) that you would both get home time at each other's home....so one time it would be at your home and one time it would be at your teammate's home.

Sorry guys for this Opinion, But there are many starter companies that don't require ANY teaming after training. If it is your intent to be a Solo Driver just go to a different outfit.

I've applied to USX. Waiting for a response. I was just wondering though. What cellular service seems to work best for most truckers? Or is there a real difference?

It really depends on you. Are you a kind of person that has a smart phone, and like me, and uses the Internet like crazy on it? Or are you a person who just needs to get or receive a call?
If you're the first choice, then no it really doesn't matter. Going through rural areas is pretty much a dead zone for data plans. If you do get lucky and find a cell tower, in a rural community, you betterm be patient for with your Internet.
If you're the second option then any cheap service will do. (probably the pre pay phones aren't the best, nor MetroPCS due to going through rural towns that they don't cover.)
Personally I have an iPhone and use AT&T. Like I said in the first option rural roads will have dead zones, and those that have data towers will be very slow.
Hope this answers your question! Be safe and good luck on the application!

I had AT&T and my husband had Verizon. He had service way more often then I did so I ended up switching.

I just finished orientation.... You sit 3 days, do a physical, drug screen, physical abilities test, road & backing test, and do alot of paperwork, watch a ton of videos, meet some people and sign alot of stuff. Plus you learn about the Driver tech and E-Logs. If hired you go with a trainer depending on what you are doing: (ie.. Dedicated-150hrs or Regional/OTR-120hrs plus 8 weeks out with another student driver. But only if your a student)! The point being is they want you to enjoy it and stay a team, that's why you don't do it for dedicated b/c you can't team on those runs......

Tbear and Young gun;
Thanks for your response. I know that many people(dare I say teens) aren't too concerned about coverage, but I thought there might be a preference when communication is necessary. Right now with Verizon. Will try it for the remaining 1 of my 2 yr contract. Might then switch to AT&T. Thanks again,

I use Sprint. Truly unlimited data which I use to tether to my laptop. Also very little in the way of dead zones as I have free roaming. All cell to cell calls are free. I also found a way to get free unlimited calling to three numbers. One of them is Google Voice so I never have to pay for any calls. That way I only pay for the plan with the lowest number of minutes.
