If your license is clean, you be alright. Even if it was reduced to 15 over you'd be OK. Werner hired me when I had 15 over, but it was a while ago. Cali sucks, I would suggest leaving their all together

I got 21 over and got hired for a federal trucking job. Don’t listen to the drama queens saying your career is over.

I agree, one violation is not enough to cost a driver their CDL. Table 2 of 383.51 is clear about this. The thing though is you can't get another Table 2 violation for 3 years. If you do and it finds its way to the CDLIS (not 100% that it will) you are going to get a 60-day vacation. This doesn't have to be speeding. I think I mentioned this a while back. A guy I know got a large over the limit speeding ticket. Then about 6 months later got a following to close ticket in Ohio. Georgia suspended his CDL for 60 days, and he also lost his job. Another problem with those large MPH over tickets is small fleets that have to go by insurance rules generally can't hire you for at least 3 years.

This is why I tell drivers to slow down EVEN in their personal vehicles because Table 2 also applies to personal vehicles. NO, such a driver has not ruined their career and there is no need for fear-mongering when it happens. However, it is prudent to make sure the driver understands what awaits them if they get another violation IN ANY vehicle within 3 years.

yeah - federal trucking is a lot different than the rest of it, insurance DICTATES what drivers are in the seat. The feds don;'t have the same standards and deep pockets and lots of lawyers to stop a lot of litigation, just look at the number of lawsuits that USPS wins when they are at fault.

You need to anticipate speed changes. They occur in very predicable locations.

    I’m curious

Was the speed limit even 85 before you crossed ?
Maybe you were speeding already and just finally got nailed for it??

There’s that 0.04 alcohol thing too that many don’t realize is on or off duty

    Update
I didn’t see all the other posts about this before I replied
But I think I actually signed something with my lease that talked about this?

But it may be a State thing
Either way .04/.08 not a big difference

Judging by his post, he was doing 85 in a 75, then the limit dropped to 65, and he was still doing 85.

Exactly. After he is arrested for bribery in California and serves 4 years, the speeding violation should be off his record. Then he can apply for Western Express with the felony and start his career.
