If you pay for the school up front, you're free and clear the day you get your CDL in the mail.

    heh....ya never know.

Well, what I have heard and come up against is this:
"Drop everything and come to our orientation right now!" (CRST)
"Can you get more training at the school you went to?" (Swift)
"It's been how long since you drove?" (Watkins & Shepard)
"You don't have any experience." (Everybody, including Prime and JB Hunt)
"Call us back after you drive 6 months for somebody." (UPS Express)
"You have to take a refresher course, but we don't offer one." (Werner)
"Our refresher course is fifteen hundred bucks." (CR England)
    "Blah blah blah". (Schneider)

I was this close to going with US Xpress. I think all the companies are basically the same. USX want me to take a bus to orientation in Dallas, TX. Why? I live by San Francisco. I want to at least go to orientation in California. That's just me. I realize I will probably be going all over the country anyway no matter who I go with, but let me pass or fail orientation in my own state, thank you.

I am going to push for CRE. Why not. If I need a refresher course, I need a refresher course. What am I going to do, tell all these companies they are wrong? If they say I do then I guess I do. The ONLY place I have come up with that will dish me out refresher course is CR England. I was going to pay for it myself. But now I learn of this special Turkey Day deal, where it apparently will not cost me a dime. I say HOORAY! Hey, I'm easy really. Take me. Use me. Gimme some experience. I'll get picky later maybe.

I like them just fine. The Training facility is very nice, and the extended stay hotel they put us students up in are pretty nice for a cheap place.

It has a 2 burner stove, microwave and small fridge so we can cook ourself and save cash. ands only 2 to a room :D

Is it possible to get your CDL permit (on your own) and train with a company?
