When you go to dallas, you will see the company doctor, and he will issue the "valid" medical card, that stevens recognizes... and stevens has stricter standards than DOT.
Better call the clinic at Stevens transport and see if the will accept you being on diabetic medication. And if they do, they probably give you a short card, like emulsified.
Got call from Katrina in recruiting..app. approved

ok will try it Monday...if they wanna make a stink about iti can too and point out that I was told by 2 recruiters it was ok to go to my Dr and I paid my Dr money. I will also will tell them that if my dr has no prob with giving me a 2yr card they should also. But I figure if worse comes to worse by that time I will not only have my hard copy CDL but also my 2yr card and there are alot more companies out there. I can also ##### very loud and mean if they refuse me for that reason and don't give me a ride back home.

flguy ...yea I have done research on Stevens and am aware of sleep apnea and BMI. I know some companies do follow it others don't only because DOT hasn't forced them to do it yet. I was bigger when I was CRE and Stevens is aware of this. They also know my 500.000 miles driving accident free...alot of safety awards and that I was a trainer with them. So like the recruiters told me all that goes in my favor and I was asked by both if I was willing to be a trainer for Stevens after a couple months on the road....Said I would think about it.

flguy....checked into several thing not only with a friend whose a OTR driver, my cousin whose a nurse that does alot of DOT Med cards but also with DOT on thier website....states that a driver cannot be disqualified from recieving thier med card unless they have loss of limb. loss of vision, or are taking insulin. Also states that drivers who have Diabetes and are taking oral medication may not be denied or given restrictions on their card, unless a company can prove that said drivers condition may worse while in thier employment. And since I have had Diabetes for over 20yrs and it hasn't gotten worse that shouldn't be a prob...I Hope. As for sleep apnea...I have never had it...hopefully never will. I do snore but not bad. The DOT rules say a driver maybe and in some cases should be disqualified if said driver has severe sleep apnea. I don't so shouldn't worry bout that. But we will see.

Again, stevens restrictions are stronger than DOT's. They may set stricter standards and have. You will see the company doctor when you arrive at dallas even if you have a valid medical card. They only accept what the in house doctor says.
Do not trust the recruiter, call the stevens clinic, before arriving and be set home due to medical.nascarchuck Thanks this. -
Can taking a anti-depressant be a 'disqualifier'? When I got my dot med card here in Ohio a year ago that doc didn't even hesitate giving me a card. If Stevens med card restrictions are more stringent, that makes me nervous. I have already been approved for the academy. Man that would just suck getting nixed!

Don't leave ANYTHING off when talking with the doc. They will find it, and when they do, they look at your nondisclosure as dishonesty.
THAT (guaranteed) will get you a ride home.
Many problems people try and hide are easy to get around. But dishonesty is the 'do not pass go' card.
As for BMI? There is a chart that lists height and weight. It must be on line somewhere. They will go by that. If your neck is too large, but you qualify under the chart, you pass. Otherwise they may require a sleep study.
If you choose to do that, you do NOT have to go to the clinic Stevens uses. You can go to a private clinic.
Usually much cheaper.
Somewhere in these threads is a referral to one.
