Let's see, we have to draw continuous lines between the time markers, but we don't have to draw continuous lines between the duty status lines?
So my interpretation is that we have to have a continuous line between the .25 time marks, but not between the Off-duty, Sleeper, Driving and On-duty not driving. I guess that means that it's not required to draw a line from driving to on-duty not driving, just place the comment in the comment section? To me that would make the logbook look real weird. A bunch of horizontal lines in different duty-status lines, but no vertical lines going from one duty status to the other.
Got DOT inspected twice in one day. Have some concerns.

Eaton18 Thanks this. -
Yes they are virgins. No recaps on my truck or trailer. Sorry to disappoint you. Comments like that sure don't make you seem like an expert to me.Driver of the year Thanks this.

Are those Yokohamas? Look just like my old tires. Changed them to good year g316s all around. Very happy with the new tires. Something to be said for quality, if those are Chinese tires ...

adrian, at least three of those tires are not acceptable according to DOT standards
because they are virgins does not mean that they cannot be unacceptably worn -
On a log that is oriented horizontally it is required to draw a line between the time markers, but no vertical line is required between duty statuses. No comment is required other than where the change occurred. Yep, it looks weird, and it is somewhat confusing at first to look at one done in this manner. I would think one would get a dazed look from LEO, but you are legal.
Best regards -
you are lucky they didnt shut you down, you must be running on a shoestring -
So I had my DOT audit today. Passed with flying colors. I questioned him about the tires on the trailer and told him about the inspection in WY. I showed him the pictures of the tires and he agreed with me. It was chicken sheet what the DOT officer did in WY. Did I forget to mention that the DOT officer in WY never even used a tread depth gauge on the tires? He just eyeballed them, saw the bald spot and wrote them up. The officer that did my inspection said that they are supposed to measure the tires at 3 evenly (or as close to evenly) spaced places on the tires and if two of them pass, the tires are ok. He said he would not of cited me for the tires. He would of mentioned that they were getting close and to have them replaced soon. He advised me to file a Data Q and submit the pictures of the tires. He has been a DOT officer for 10 years and would know better than the two "rookies" who inspected me.
I also asked him about the log book deal with the vertical lines between duty status changes and he also agreed that you do NOT have to draw the vertical lines between duty status changes. Now I am convinced that the WY highway patrol are not up to par with the regulations and are just out to screw us as are a lot of DOT officers in these podunk, bass ackwards towns. I appreciate all the comments, some that can relate and others that are obviously company drivers and don't know what it means to have to have thousands of dollars on hand to make repairs whenever DOT thinks we need them.
My original question about the definition of "Fillet" in the DOT regs on tire measurements remains undefined by the "Experts" on this site. All I got was a bunch of crap about not maintaining my rig. Thanks to all who can relate and sympathize. To all the rest. Educate yourselves before judging or making comments to things you are not absolutely sure about. Scalemaster, that was directed to you. -
Yes they are Yokohama tires, but they are made in Japan not China. They were on the trailer when I bought it. I have had very good luck with Yokohamas in the past but I will be changing them out for Michellins more than likely.

Now this is funny to me. You go and ##### that WY never even gauged your tires, but praise your auditor for agreeing with you, this in spite of the fact that he didn't gauge them either. And your auditor didn't even see them in person, only pictures. And you go and aim a barb at Scalemaster because he made a snide comment about your tires, just as you made about the "rookie" WY DOT cops.
Like it both ways much?
