Today i was pulling out of a spot in the TA, making a right turn. After clearing the trick on my blind side, i began to go on my way. Shortly after this other driver runs up to my truck in his boxers, hooting and hollering. I said what are you talking about. Well aparently my tail swing clipped the truck on my driver side and i cany figure out how this happened. The mirror was pushed back but wasnt broke, just scuffed. He took my insurance info. Will this go on my mvr and hurt my chances of going local? How do i avoid this happening again? I swung wide to clear truck on blind side...
Got in accident and didnt know it

Thats what happened you swung wide to avoid the passenger side truck, which in turn meant you went to the left which caused your trailer to track to the left then when you turned the trailer still tracked to the left and the overhang swung wide also and then clipped the other truck. Dont swing wide just drive as far forward as you can then make the turn.

Tail swing can be a problem in tight parking lots when exiting. You just have to pay attention. You can't simply get your tandems out of the hole, the cut it as hard as you want. You must allow time for the rear of the trailer to track out of the hole.
If I'm slid up short. I'm not going to put it into a hard cut until half the distance between the rear tandem and the back of the trailer is out of the hole. Even then, I may stop and take a look.
Blind side exit or not, those tandems are going to be as close to the truck that's under me as possible. When coming out of the hole.dirtjersey Thanks this. -
Instead of insurance you should have just offered to get him a new mirror,

You need to know where the back end of the trailer is even though you can't see it. Follow it in your mind, use your judgement.
You always need to remember where your axles are, and how they are going to act. If you have a tri-axle, it can be a new challenge with every turn you make. It all depends on which axle the trailer pivots on. Sometimes it's the front, in which case it turns nice. Sometimes it's the middle which can really throw things off in a hurry if your backing up. Sometimes it's the back axle, and she turns like it's 100 feet long.
Overhang can be a killer, as I said, with experience, your judgement will build up to the point that you will know where the back of the trailer is, and where it is going to be, without even seeing that other side.dirtjersey Thanks this. -
once you made the right your driver side is now the blind side you can see the truck on the right all you had to do is stop before you completed the turn and went back to see how close you were to the guy on your left. you could have come up with a different resolution to fix the guys mirrors but in this era if you hit it you bought it and it wont show up on your MVR unless a police report was done but you company will have a record of it . In the future just look at the situation and say thats gonna be tight if it was tight getting in its gonna be tight getting out it doesnt hurt to stop and look a couple times just as long as you dont hit anything is all that matters. be safe

Wal-Mart yard jockey did the same thing to me back in January...he pulled out the trailer and turned too soon and creamed my passenger mirror. The tandems on the trailer he was pulling were all the way up.
