NON-CDL under 150 miles I can drive 14 hours and be on duty 16 hours in California. If I've been on duty since 5am and at 2pm my dispatcher asks me to pick a load in San Diego and deliver it to North Hollywood and I'm sitting in Commerce or Hawthorne, CA, (under 150 air miles from the terminal) I'm going to question my drive/od time when the load is delivered. If I drive over 150mi from the yard, I'm subject to 10drive/12od and have to keep a log (CA intrastate rules). If I drive out of state, I am subject to 10/12 and have to have an ELD in my truck.

Protect yourself for your next cdl job. Sometimes it's better to grit your teeth; grin & bear it.

I have; thousands of times, but it benefited me. Can't do that now on Elogs.

Not getting into the HOS, but at one point I was thinking about an SNI auto parts relay run. They required HM because automotive batteries might be part of the load.

Depends on the batteries; if there's "x" amount of acid in the batteries; it's hazmat. If the batteries have been drained, it's not hazmat. I've hauled both and that's what the shipper required.

    speedyk and COBB2070 Thank this.

One of my regular loads was the Virgin Galactic rocket motor. On the BOL it always said "HazMat.... exempt" and included 4 pages of paperwork showing the rocket motor was cleaned and purged of all hazardous and explosive materials including a DOT and FAA certification of the purge.

    speedyk and Chinatown Thank this.

And I have the logs to prove it going back to October when I started.
