I've had a few doctor appointments, so I put off going to orientation with Werner in July. But, I'll be honest with you all. I really really don't want to be in a truck with a trainer for the 5 or so weeks it would take to become a solo driver. I just can't see myself living that way, even for such a short time. I don't really know why I feel that way, I think it's just some part of my psychological make-up, just like one might be afraid of flying, or being in a full elevator.
Now my question is, I'm ready to drive, but can I get on with a company that would require minimal training to get going. Pay is not an issure, I would gladly take $10/hour during any training phase, as long as I'm not stuck in the truck with another guy for 5 weeks and driving all over the place. Local or home every 3 days or so would be fine.
You all probably think I'm a nut for even going to truck driving school and getting my CDL, but I really only wanted to get it so I could get into a local haul, mainly doing day-cab work.
Any help or leads would be appreciated. Any potential employers please in-box me.
Got my CDL in late June 2011, but.....

Sounds exactly like me, tbh.. You'll be hard pressed to find a local gig without experience...

My biggest issue is going to be sharing a bed with some random and probably dirty guy. Ugh. I get twitchy thinking that he might have lice or carry bedbugs or something!

I agree. I'm a germaphobe as well as a very alpha type male and frankly the thought of sharing a small space with another man let alone a strange one makes me cringe but I will suck it up keep my head down and drive on. My goals are too important to let my personal hang ups get in the way. I just hope the time flies by and that I don't get stuck with a chatterbox.

An alpha that is a germaphobe, has personal hangups, cringes at the thought of being in a small space with another man, and fears too much conversation.
...
An alpha would not even consider germs, because the alpha body is equipped to handle them.
An alpha would never admit to personal hangups.
An alpha would never cringe in the presence of another man - he would make the other man do so.
An alpha would be the one dominating the conversation. -
An alpha male doesn't dominate conversation an alpha speaks when he has something he wants to say. In real life when I speak people listen because they know I don't do small talk.
I have never in my life physically cringed from anything nor will I. I said the thought makes me cringe it was a figure of speech nothing more. As an alpha male going into a situation where I am directly under the oversight of another man in a confined space would have been a recipe for disaster when I was younger, there is a part of me that will always believe when it comes to a man to man issue a well placed fist is the shortest distance between disagreement and resolution, but the biggest difference is that I am in control of that part of myself now and it doesn't come out unless I decide to let it out. Evolution of the mind is essential.
The traits you described are actually traits of an insecure/immature male. You should educate yourself an alpha is not required to be a cretinous, mouth-breathing, knuckle dragger. It's not about being a bad ### or invincible it's about knowing what you want and being able to make that happen. -

When with my trainer I used my sleeping bag and pillow. Quite sanitary. Good luck finding the local job you want. Most places I have been checking want at least a year experience with the majority wanting 3+.
If you have no time otr then time with a trainer is mandatory. Having your cdl doesn't mean jack. There is a LOT more to learn before any company will cut you loose solo. Suck it up, do your time. I was with a trainer for 3 weeks and it wasn't so bad. He was a pretty good guy.Gizmo_Man Thanks this. -
We ALL have had to do things that we didn't like, but we did them to get it done and over with.
You lost very valuable time behind the wheel since you graduated. No one will take you on as a driver, as you forgot most of what you had learned.
Go back to school, get that done, buy a sleeping bag, some anti-bacterial lotion, say good-bye to whomever is at home, and "just do it".
Otherwise, your story is lame as to why you have not gone to work yet.
