It really depends on your situation and what you want to do. Do you want to go OTR or regional, or would you rather stay local. Whatever you want to do, getting into a school would give you a better chance at being hired.

But there are jobs that you might be able to get without the schooling. I know you posted that most of your local companies leave a bit to be desired. But you are home every day if that is important to you.

I think someone posted about construction companies, there are also equipment rental outfits that hire class A delivery drivers. Then there are trash companies. And beverage companies. And food companies. A lot of these different companies might be willing to hire you in a secondary position where you are driving once in a while.

LTL freight companies will often hire you for a dock worker and use you to shuttle trailers around the yard. You can often work up to regular driving positions here.

Yes, you would be better off going to school and getting your certificate. Maybe. Like most everything else in life, it depends on what your needs, wants and situation are.

I would like to say that I am very impressed with how helpful everyone on this forum seems to be.
Truckers seem to be a rare breed of men and women that work there ##### off and wont hesitate to help someone out.

On a forum, or if you're broke down on the shoulder. They share stories, laugh and slap one another on the back at the truck stop. On the road, however, it's every driver for themselves and they'll cut your throat to get in front of you.
