passed the written test and got a temporary learners permit that expires in 6 months. the restrictions are intrastate commerce only. Is this how the permit is supposed to be? i am 28 and to be attending school within my state for OTR at swift. expiration says 1/2017
when i login to my online dds account, it says that i am self-certified into Non-Excepted Intrastate. it then gives me the option to update to interstate.
got my cdl permit today. please help

Intrastate means that you are licensed to operate a cmv ONLY in the state that issued your license. You need to get that straightened out before you leave to start your OTR training.Dave_in_AZ and otherhalftw Thank this.

The "learners permit" is just what it says...a permit to learn. Along with the intrastate restriction, it says you must be with a "licensed driver"...this means someone with a current CDL, not just someone with a drivers license. The permit is for you to legally learn to operate a Class A vehicle, not run freight.

i must have filled out the form wrong...
-
Absolutely correct. Be sure whichever Swift academy you will be attending is the issue state of the permit.

the permit was issued in georgia and i am going to the school in waco, georgia. do i still need to go back to the dmv to get an interstate license?
-
You do not have the option of interstate with a permit. Once you finish and pass the course and test for the CDL, your license will be upgraded to interstate. Your permit is for learning. Your Class C license is still in effect, and the DMV of your state shows in it's files that you passed the written tests for a CDL Learners Permit...but that only has the written test completed. Your course work and time will give the knowledge and skills to go back and pass the drive test and the Pre-trip inspection portion...and once again there will be another written test.
-
Just some friendly advice...pay close attention in the classroom, more people bomb out with the pre-trip than in the drive portion...both are critical, but the pre-trip has many more specific functions and terms that need to be presented to the examiner during the test.
JReding Thanks this. -
I see now. All is well then. I thought I made a mistake on the form. Thank you.
one last question. the permit they gave me is a photo paper id. the clerk said i wont get a permanent card since its just a learners permit. the expiration on it is january 2017. is this correct? -
