You've gotta Lawyer up! 'Splain your situation to a good Legal Eagle that knows trucking. If your company REALLY sucks and it's running you Outlaw fashion a good lawyer is also good insurance- and might provide a good retirement if you burn up a driving record. (Hint,Hint)

Glad I went OTR now instead of dealing with the mess out in the Bakken fields.

OTR drivers would make $1,700 too if they drove for 16 hours a day. :biggrin_2559:

Really? That is horrible. I've been asked by several OTR drivers at the truck stop why I choose to drive a dirty, beat-up truck and work such long hours and I tell them the pay is decent and (for me) going home at night is a great perk. Most agree, some tell me I'm crazy, but I thought they seemed like they liked the OTR thing. I know the pay sucks at first but thought that after you got that first year under your belt the pay started to take off. Guess I should feel better, but I still don't feel good when I'm working and not being paid...we do work our tails off for 16 hours straight and get about 5-6 hrs sleep a night though. Do OTR drivers get to stick to the 14 hour day (and 10 hours of rest) or is that just something the recruiters say?

Yes most of us follow the 11-14 hour rule. Pretty tough to go over with E-logs. I'm banking just under a grand a week, take home. And I don't get to see my family but maybe 4 days out of a month.

You just need to find a better company man. I work for one of the biggest water hauling companies in my area. I work 12-13 hrs a day and get paid for every minute. I never run illegal unless I choose to and most problems with the trucks get fixed within a few days. I usually gross 2700 for two weeks. My bring home isn't as high as it should be cause our family insurance is outrageously expensive but I still bring home more than most otr drivers and I sleep in my own bed every single night. There is nothing wrong with oilfield work. I don't mind being tired or filthy in exchange for the paycheck and home time. My biggest complaint is the attitude of trucking company owners towards their drivers.

Hoping to find a better company but no luck yet - in a year or two I should be able to get a job hauling crude to refinery and they seem to be better.

    What kind words.

It appears he has been off the "tit", as you put it, long enough to pass a spelling and grammar class or two.

It's tough job with lots of hours, stick with it and keep your eyes open for other job openings, $1700 a week is nothing to sneeze at!! Lots of guys out here would kill, well maybe break your leg just for that gig.
