Look at it this way- You gotta do something until you die, why not this? Could be worse, at least you're not CHAINED to the truck. Hope you're putting some of that in a coffee can.

The set hours per load can work to your advantage. When I was hauling oil base cuttings in South Texas my lowest paying load was 9 hours. I was turning that in 5 to 6 hours. If turn in 140 to 160 hours a week (yes 1 week) but was only working 100 to 120. Hang in there and make a name for yourself in the oilfield. Don't make a bad name. A bad name travels far and fast in the oilfield.

Yeah that sounds like a crap job. You can take an easy starter gig with an OTR outfit, but don't expect the money. Still, money ain't everything if you truly hate oilfield work. I know I wouldn't be interested from what I've heard. Our local NY/NJ day cabbers make $18/hr kicking furniture and carpet off the tail and they're paid for every minute until they come back to the terminal and clock out.

Dang, I was thinking 1700/wk at first as well. 1700 for 2 weeks isn't all that great for that amount of work. OTR freight drivers can make that easily. What's the point of being home every night if it's only for 5 hours?

With COL in the NY/NJ area, isn't that more like $12 / hour in the rest of the country?

there are good water hauling gigs in the oilfield and there are ones like you have. looking over there trucks before starting a job is often a good indicator of it being a good company or not, if they run trucks that wont pass a dot from 10 feet away run as fast as you can no only will you be driving crap illegal equipment but they will likely screw there drivers as well. get a couple months experience were your at and then jump ship as soon as work starts picking up.

Yup, 1700 for 2 weeks. The boss underbid these particular locations but if you bust your ### you can get within an hour or so of breaking even for the day, as long as you get out of the yard on time and there are no breakdowns or miscommunications.

Your going to have to weigh your options, you could have went with werner or swift or you could suck it up a little and drive that water truck then move on to a better company after you get some seat time.
