It seems really bad now but you will actually get used to sleeping only 5 hours a night. Even on your days off. I'd stick it out if it were me, I started in a similar situation with tanks and now haul fuel, a great gig. Every fall we go HOS exempt for the harvest season whereas, I run about 18-20 hrs a day for 5 days straight... and log it all.

Only been DOTed once while running exempt, should have seen the look on the DOT officers face when he glanced at my log. Then, I pointed to the "EXEMPT" written on the bottom and asked if he wanted to see the Governors decree paperwork... He told me to get the hell out of there...LOL

Never heard of a harvest HOS exemption before. What are the requirements on that (certain states, driving certain trucks, or what)?

It's for fuel trucks that are required to keep the harvest machines going. We get a decree letter from the Governor of the state stating we are 'EXEMPT' from HOS regulations. They usually give them to propane suppliers and even Anhydrous suppliers as well.

DOT hates it. Cause they know they cannot touch us for anything HOS related.

Yes, it's for certain states... MN and IA is where we run and they both do it. ... but it's not without its goofy rules as well.

For example: Say I'm 'exempt' in MN and IA and I go across the border into SD... That would void my 'exemption' and I would need a full 10 hrs off duty or sleeper... than as long as I'm back in MN or IA, I could run 24 hrs a day if it were possible... It's goofy and stupid... Kind of like saying you can pee in this side of the swimming pool but not the other side.

Imagine what you'd be making if you weren't paying the salaries of all those scheisters at the hall who blow smoke and rainbows up yer arse at those monthly pep rallies. JK I was a Union FF for 10 years. I wish there wasn't always someone around the corner(or in an office) waiting to take some of the money I earn with MY back.

Here is the merry-go-round that these drivers are on. Turn 21, get your CDL. Pay your dues (slave conditions for very little money). Drive unsafe junk 18 hours a day. Get 3 or 4 OOS in a year. Be un-hireable anywhere else, keep your slave job because you cant be hired by any good company. Quit your slave job, go back home, live with mom, get a job at the bowling alley cleaning shoes.

Dont worry about the company though, there are plenty of other "professionals waiting to start their career"..... ready to fill your seat.

Well, thats your fault for driving bad equipment.

If you actually did your homework on potential employers, things like this would never happen.
