Nah actually, both of you make valid points. Wouldn't it be nice if the sunshine people seem to like having blown up their skirts were true? It's not, unfortunatley. Nothing wrong with a little optimism, long as it's mixed with a little reality. Something people need to hear. Like the reason starting wages have dropped being a lot because people come thinking they will stay, and disappear in no time. Why pay them top dollar for the first three to six months? I wouldn't pay much to start either, if I were hiring newbies. Just good business.

If that is who will hire you then you have the choice of running bad equipment (and praying you don't get busted by DOT) or flipping burgers at McDonalds.

Or driving the junk because you are desperate and then after you rack up so many violations that you can't drive anymore, ever, for anyone, riding your bike or having your Mom drive you to that burger job.

Well you had ANOTHER choice. That would have had equal results.

    Military.....

Seems the obvious choice, since you like killing people or getting killed.

Got a family relying on me so u have to work where I can get it - best I can do right now is work to make the equipment as safe as I can and drive as safely as I can.

If I was making 1600 a week, I wouldn't be complaining. If they are making you drive crappy equipment that wouldn't pass DOT inspection, then quit or speak to a lawyer or both. But if the truck is mechanically sound, and just looks ugly...the DOT don't care, thats according to a DOT officer I spoke to yesterday.
