There were places in KS we traveled through that went from 65 to 45 w/ nary a warning it was coming. It IS possible, and it is out there.

What's wrong with bein a redneck? I consider myself a redneck? Born and raised in a small hick town in Florida. And yes I'm one of those truckers who wear cowboy boots, wranglers, button up long sleeved shirts, and a cowboy hat when it's 100* outside. ;)

    Not many, just along US-56, US-50, US-400/54, K-61...... :biggrin_25523:
I run those a lot and know exactly where they are. On some of them I'll jake right up to the sign, then shut it off.

On US-56, there's a very small town, Chase, KS. There's a new trooper that loves sitting there. Speed goes from 65 to 50. One day a few weeks ago, I was running with another one of our drivers. He was a few miles ahead of me. He yelled at me on the radio about the troop sitting there. Now there was a flatbedder in front of me. He took off like he lit the afterburners. I grabbed the mic, and tried to warn him. Well, he found out, he was talkin to the new troop when I went by..

Maybe it has something to do with where you grew up?

Those of us that grew up in small towns (any State) probably personally knew the local cops and heard the stories of the "Big Bad Truckers" and that they were fair game for the speed trap set up. Along with "out of State plates"...fair game to get nailed without the "Speed reduced ahead" sign warning.

I'm sure you won't forget the experience..and will be more aware of the "small towns" now when you run the roads. Just part of "the learning curve" out here!

This was exactly what I was going to say. It doesn't really matter if you're in a truck or car though, they like to get you in small towns. They always set up right at the signs as well. If you see lights and a sign that you can't read yet in the middle of nowhere, the safe bet is to slow down.

The dreaded small town speed traps. It's like that going down US 31 to Indy.

Well it's for the lawyer to deal with now. Supposed to call me in a day or 2. I don't even have to appear anywhere. We'll see if the service I signed up for is worth it.

Well I had the choice of having the ticket dropped down to 49 in a 45, or they would dismiss the ticket and I pay a FTA fine (failure to appear). I could take the ticket but it still shows up on my MVR as a moving violation. The FTA will cost me more, $350 vs $175 for the ticket, but it does not show up on my MVR and as a class c misdemeanor (same as a parking ticket) I am told it does not go on a criminal record. So I am paying a little more, almost a weeks wages, to keep my records clean. Live and learn. Was an expensive mistake but could've been worse.

I'm glad you came out ok here. I believe you should have known about the small towns but like they say "live and learn". Most companies wouldn't be so friendly like yours was so you're better off on that one. We all know in NV that you can run like you want until you get to a town. Then you'd better be going the speed way before the sign. Plus it can drop from 55 to 25 with no other signs. I don't know if that comes out of the past when NV had no speed limit on the open road or it just to raise a few bucks for the small towns. You can still get nailed on the open road but it's rare judging from my experience. Anyway, now you know.

Yep, learning experience. I am a lot more attentive, specially on US routes as they seem to be the worst for this type of thing.
