Thanks! I'd forgotten about that link. So this is the generic message I got:
"Your application has been processed and your license is currently in production. Once the license has been produced, it will be checked for quality assurance and mailed to you.Thank you for your patience."

So it does sound like there's another one on it's way to me but that does mean @Moose1958 has a good point and the one I got yesterday technically isn't valid.

Hazmat takes a few extra weeks. You'll recieve a new license then.

Go get a TWIC card too if you dont have one.

If it's the most current or only license in your possession it is valid.

Technically speaking the first document is not fully valid although the driving privileges are VERY valid! I would NOT provide it to a carrier at this point. It is better to wait until the correct document comes in. With that said, however, if that first document is run by a cop it should reflect the 2nd document provided the DL numbers jive. In the meantime, I suggest keeping ALL correspondence from the DPS close by when driving until such time the correct and final documents arrive!

Well, just tried to call DPS and the office is closed today. Looks like I won't be able to find out anything more until Friday at the earliest.

When I got my cdl in Tx, at one point I had a 2 week old Tx dl, my paper cdl permit, my new actual cdl license, another paper permit with my hazmat endorsement and then finally my new license with my hazmat endorsement. All within 8 or 10 weeks.

If your hiring company wants you. They'll have to pull your mvr. It will have to show all endorsements before your license is produced and mailed.

You're not likely to get your license with all endorsements BEFORE the endorsements show up on your mvr. .

When you get paper. That's your valid license untill plastic shows up which is your valid license till the replacement shows up which will be your new valid plastic.

Make sure to follow up with the dmv in texas about your hazmat. I did hazmat test then did finger prints/background check. Got approved. Waited a month No license. Called dmv. They said the place I tested did it wrong g and they're still waiting on them to push a button. So I had to go down and tell them they messed up. 10 days later I got my new license with the hazmat

I'm pretty sure you will be getting the HazMat plastic card any day now. You do not get the CDL plastic card with HazMat until EVERYTHING is processed and confirmed. Even if that means you get the non-HM CDL card with all endorsements and then later get your CDL card with all endorsements AND HM, I think you OK.

YOU CANNOT HAUL HAZMAT UNTIL YOUR CDL CARD (paper or plastic) W/ENDORSEMENT IS IN YOUR HAND, letter from TSA and TX notwithstanding. In my state they will issue the paper CDL at the time you are in the DMV with whatever endorsements for which you have satisfied all requirements. The plastic card is mailed to you. I keep the paper CDL in a separate location as a backup in case I misplace the real driver license. In my state the paper CDL is EXACTLY the same thing as the plastic laminated DL, minus the lamination and hologram.

I have been multitasking most of the day and just now can sit down and make a good reply. My comments in posts #7 and #14 were really not as complete as I would have wanted. I agree 100% with what @tscottme just posted. As a trucker hauling Haz-mat you want every T crossed and every I dotted, otherwise you risk sanctions!

    tscottme and MYSTYKRACER Thank this.
