I'm pretty sure you LOVE every second of that as well being all creepy.

back to the post, I do know the r and l p/d drivers are required to buy their own pallet jack and hand truck. Apparently they make a payment plan. I don't get it but it is what it is.

and radman is correct about the lower pYing companies. They tend to not bother you and are a little more forgiving.

Hmmm, are we talking incest here, or just nepotism?:biggrin_25523:

OK, just how does that work out? How do they keep their pallet jacks and hand trucks from being uh "borrowed" by every body else?

I could never understand why an LTL carrier wouldn't provide the necessary tools to perform the job.

A couple of "EXCUSES" (not reasons)

First off, carriers are cheap sobs to begin with, and hand trucks and pallet jacks cost money.

Second off, drivers tend to leave their tools at shipper/receiver, (I've been guilty of that, but retrieved it,) or leave a back door open and loose tools off the truck, (yeah, I did that one time too. Long story, but no excuse for it.) Which of course could kill somebody.

Keep it locked with a padlock and chain. That's what I do.

Their not too bad if you can tolerate all the residentials and garbage freight. They do have their good points. I would suggest avoiding a big city terminal though, if possible.

Another thing to keep in mind is unlike Con-Way, R+L isn't using the nannycams.

Apparently the justification for that is the driver will take better are of the equipment if it's his. But the fact that R+L hauls so much junk make that pretty much a moot point.

The back of R+L's trailers say "We ship Anything, Anywhere, Anytime", which basically translates to "All garbage freight all the time".

Also, for the most part, true.

UPSF hauled a lot of ugly freight as well. They took whatever they could get their hands on. Most companies normally don't care about how it needs to be delivered, all they see is $$$$

if I were to have to pay for my own stuff, if I ever left it would be coming with me unless they say they would buy it. My last job I brought my own stuff in from my dads who I still don't know why he had it, and on my last day I took it all with me back

i currently work for r&l and there's alot of convience in being able to move freight around on your trailer, and i get a liftgate every now and then. so you got to have a pallet jack for those deliveries. i like ltl work, it keeps me in shape.
