The registration on my 2015 f350 says 9500 and the featherlite trailer Im using is registered for 16k. The problem is, however, that the cop took the gvwrs off the stickers on both and combined them, which puts me over 26k.

He didnt hit me that hard today, but, this is definitely something I need to deal with. I know I should register them combined, but that still wont solve the problem because the DOT inspector flowchart I was shown still says its either the gcwr or the combined gvwrs. Only solution I see is, getting a cdl, or taking the sticker off the trailer. Would think that is doable because a lot of trailers dont have stickers anyway. Just dont want to have to get a cdl when that is the reason why I bought the rig in the first place. Seems like such an anal detail. Any thoughts are appreciated.

That's why I always thought that you guys with pickup's were going about it all wrong, I would think you would be better off with a long WB cab and chassis with a bed on it and a shorter lighter trailer.

Since they are using your GVWR the truck needs to carry close to it's max and then a smaller trailer you would be under.

May I ask what you are hauling?

I haul various stuff...equipment, construction supplies, metal..Was just curious if someone knows how I should set this up so I dont get flagged. Was thinking of doing a gcwr registration for the truck and trailer, scratching off the mfg sticker on the trailer so I dont have my balls busted. Kinda stupid because the gcwr is only 24500.

Can you get the trailer recertified for a lighter weight? BUT the issue I see is that your truck is probably GVWR'ed at what 15,000, so that only let's you 11,000 for the trailer?

Which if you deduct the weight of the trailer probably leaves you very little carrying capacity?

The truck is rated at 24500 gcwr by Ford. The problem is that doesnt show on the sticker, and the officer said they look at the individual manufacturers gvwr on both the truck and trailer. If this is the case, all duallys would need a cdl unless they pulled a really small trailer like the one you mentioned. According to the officer, most of these guys are in violation of the law and need cdls.

I cant get the trailer recertfied, but , I would think simpy scratching the sticker off the trailer should get me around that. Its stupid you have to go there because less than 24500 total weight is being pulled at all times. Just seems like a new gimmick to bust balls.

Don't feel bad, and it's not a new gimmick, put up with it for years back in the 90's when we hauled rv campers for a bit, Camper might weigh 9,000 but had a GVWR sticker on it of 15,000 always put you over.

Just got to the point we started requiring all drivers in pickups to have CDL's.

Back to my original thought of long cab/chassis, how much deck space do you need?

I guess the more the merrier. I just bought this rig a few months ago. Its a 25' flatbed. Cant really sell it or trade it in. Id take a beating on it. Im going to try and register combined and see if that eases the pain a bit.

Is what I thought of doing a doable tactic? Scratching off the mfg sticker on the trailer?
