Get a new vin tag from FL with a lower GVWR.
I used to have a Kaufman wedge that didn't have a vin tag, they always just went by the registration for the GVWR. But if you ever get a hardass dot they are going to go by your axle ratings if you dont have a vin sticker.
Got pulled over in inspection area, trooper says I need cdl

2015 f350 has a what on the vin door tag? 13500 GVWR? So you need the trailer to be at 12500. Pretty simple. Call feather light and see if you can get a new vin tag with a lower GVWR (12500#) most trailer manufacturers will give you one.
MJ1657 and teamgreen1 Thank this. -
Gotcha, could just register the trailer for 12k ...Dont do a combo rating, just lower the trailer rating and scratch the label. Seems like a lot less hassle in the meantime

Kaufman and take3 will overnight a new vin tag for like $25. Dont know about feather light.Last edited: May 11, 2015
teamgreen1 Thanks this. -
Truckon,
I agree that getting the new vin tag is the better way to go. Can they still bust your balls by doing the math on what you have loaded and figuring out that you have more freight in lbs than the trailer can handle? Even though that wouldnt be the case? Thanks -
But, if your combination is under 26000 GVWR and your not over on any of your axles ratings you will be fine. -

A tractor trailer has a cvwr on it that includes the trailer weight as well...why is it any different with a pickup? If you have 26k as the cvwr , why does it matter?

Scratching off the sticker won't do a thing, get the CDL and be glad he didn't bust you for no IFTA, that's when they put on the shoulder length rubber glove.
