One of two trucks I've been looking at, the owner traded in to a small dealer.
1993 Pete 379 stretch hd
60 series DD single turbo with approximate 155,000 miles.
Flat black and chrome.
20,000$ is what he's asking. it is incredibly clean outside. Interior shows its age.
The engine looks to be in normal condition from all the pictures he sent.
Anyone have any thoughts on this.
My experiences with DD engines is 0.
Anythin I should particularly be looking for?
If the mileage is legit then I think im thinking wow.
Thank you
Got some info back

Mirage seems awful low maybe he ment 150,000,000 DD's aren't bad just get ready to spend some fuel money
Rusty86 Thanks this. -
Seems high to me on the price. I understand it has low miles but the truck is still a 93. It doesn't matter if its a brand new engine it doesn't add $20,000 to the price tag.
A company driver buddy of mine got a big bright idea to cash in his 401k from the company he has been driving for of 24 years. He went out and bought a 96 379 pete with 305" wb along with a 48 ft wagon with intentions of becoming an owner op. He has since decided to stay as a company man. The nice stretched pete is sitting forsale for $11,000. Has 400,000 on the overhaul with a 15sp eaton. I am working on talking him down to $8,500 as its more reasonable for the year of the truck.
Anyways other than price it wouldn't be a bad truck to check into. Them detroits are cheap to rebuild but you gotta remember they are usually needing rebuilt around 1 million.Mr. PlumCrazy and Rusty86 Thank this. -

Ask this seller what is the ECM miles ( how many miles are on that engine?) if it matches the miles on the speedometer then there is something wrong with this picture
Rusty86 Thanks this. -
My thoughts exactly on the miles. He told me and I literally was at a loss for words. I working on a deal with a very small dry freight company in my city. They pay 80% I've seen their books, and talked to their outside brokers. 3/7 of there drivers are averaging 2$ a mile. The rest are above. I wouldnt just buy a truck and trailer and think id start working. Still working out the details. As for the truck as soon as I call the guy ill get a more definite answer on the miles. If its a different engine then ill offer under 10k most likely closer To 5-6k. Just to clarify he said 155,000miles was only the engine. He hasn't told me what the odometer says yet. If the 155,000miles matches the odometer. Hey I've seen cars sit in barns or 20 years that are mint. Never know.

As for fuel. 6.75mpg at best. Getting passed by every swift around haha at 6mpg I'd still be well above water at 2$ a mile.
-
I would suggest the 5-6k mark no more than. 8500. I see a huge maintenance file in your future, and many many hours of labor and parts. I don't care if that truck has a brand new reman motor. The trans rears brakes suspension etc all that is just as expensive to get road worthy as overhauling a motor. I cannot speak for a 92 for parts cost. But in about eh 2 months I'm looking at easily $1400 in parts to do brakes on my tractor. Mines going to get drums, s cams, bushings, slacks, etc. Least then I KNOW everything is up to par. That is the beauty of a cheap truck if you can afford to put a lot of money in them. You can rebuild them, and then you KNOW what you have as opposed to dropping 30k on a used truck that may or may not have been taken care of.
I would suggest dragging a mechanic out there to look at it with you if you know one. And make sure its one you trust with your life and your wallet lol good luck right? Anyway that would be my suggestion. And don't make a decision that day. Look at it walk away, sleep on it and maybe let him sit on it for a bit. A 92 long hood with a S60 isn't exactly a desirable truck not when you can get a 98 for the same price. As what this guy is asking.
DrtyDiesel and Rusty86 Thank this. -
I was basing that off of a 99' I know. His best is 6.75mpg.
Dragging a mechanic out there could be interesting. The truck is in TN. I'm in MI. Working on getting a load that way, at the same time beating around the bush as to why. Dot want to tell my current company "hey can you send me to looks at a potential truck so I can quit working for you' haha
from what I've been told about it. A lot has been replaced already. Won't know for certain til I get my hands on it in person. -
No way a 93 has only 155,000 miles. Maybe its 155, 00 since rebuild or replace of engine, but the rest of the truck still is gonna be really high Miles.
It probaly has 1,115,000 and the odometer flipped at 1,000,000 or its just the miles since last rebuild. Does it have original seets? If not, or if they are worn, its a sign someone sat in um for more then 115,000. Check the peddles. Are they worn? If it really only has 115,000 on it then it should look brand new under the hood.
