I've had to throw them on just to get home at the end of the day. Local. I've also had to throw them on. Just to drive in the farmers fields. Multiple times a day for weeks. I don't miss them days.
These have gotten me out of a bind in snow and ice more than once. We call them cheater chains. You put them thru the whole in your wheel around the outside tire, hook it and zip tie it or whatever to get you out of the problem area and then take them off. Do not try to drive down the road with them, just to get unstuck!!! I put two of them on each outside tire.
Even if you don’t go into states with chain laws you should still have a pair of chains for times like that. Who should pay…the truck owner if you’re a W-2 employee. Seen a flip flop driver at the TA in Fort Bridger, WY who called a tow truck. He unhooked from his trailer and couldn’t get back under. Wasn’t intelligent enough to dump his air bags to get under or use chains..probably could have just laid them on the ground instead of putting them on. My guess is that he never heard of chains.. Don’t know how fleet owners deal with the stupidity.
Its really not all that hard to throw just one chain on. Lock it all up and usually just the one chain can get you out of a hole. If you've got a fleet truck without lockers you will most likely have to chain up one axle to get moving.
