He never asked what the "bare minimum" is I would need, the amount I gave him more than pays what I would need to make my bills, I was in business for myself too long and bid numerous high dollar contracts and know how the system works. I know my value and how to get what I'm worth.

Plus thanks to a good plan my bills are minimum, 3yrs left on housepayment, 1 car 2 bikes, No credit cards, sig loans ect and wife has great pay job of 14yrs.

Havent given notice to anyone yet until the final details are met, I'm not a "cart before the horse" kinda guy. Already inquired on the insurance aspect a month ago and he said that would not be an issue.

And finally I met this person about 4 months ago or so but the people I met him through has known and been around him since highschool and only speak highly of him.

I thank everyone for your comments and concern I hope this lets you see I am being cautious and coming in with both eyes wide open

I don't know why everyone is so cynical when you are being paid to train and know you have a job . You are far better off than those paying for schooling and have no job prospects .

It's funny in here how whenever someone discloses they are starting at a "bottom feeder" mega carrier, they get critiqued and told to maybe find a "small company" to catch on with, and to "keep looking!"

Now we have someone catching on with a small company, and he is told he may be left on the side of the road and the owner could be shady, etc.

    You can't win!

My 2 cents, I'd go with the smaller company every time (maybe because I am one!?)

Just an update..As of today I have passed by written CDL permit, have permit in hand an I'm so DANG excited... Spoke with owner of company finalized wage during training, 450/week VERY SATISFIED with this, he is taking on a big responsiblity with out hesitation.. Only drawback is he is wanting to wait till the 1st after the holidays, fully understand but is letting me get yard time on the weekends..So fired up!

Hey UC-How are you?I think it's a very good opportunity for you.I got my CDL and then into OTR trucking in a different way than most people.I learned by going out and doing things. When you go to do something(turning, backing, load securing, tarping, whatever)if it doesn't work the first time,it won't work the second time either. You have a chance to learn at slow speed and practice over and over again. At your own speed.Take care and have fun.Brian
