i was told one day this week that the goverment was going to buy 2003 and older trucks as part of obammas stimulis package 163 billion dollars was set aside to remove older trucks from the highway peterbilt dealer called one of my friends to tell him about it they will give you 25% of the value of a new truck . now heres the deal you keep th truck but have to destroy the motor (dont know how bad) and in 2010 if you want to replace the motor you can put it back to work . anyone hear of this

I haven't heard of that one, but it sounds like something dumb enough for the government to have come up with. I think California has some legislation that requires the old engines to be replaced after a specific date, can't remember much about it because I never EVER plan on hauling anything to California!

As I said last year: forget about gliders from here out.

I think the best deal (if you're on the edge) is to take the buyout offer (if its even real, I haven't see a news article on this yet) and get a truck this year.

Trying to put a 2010 engine in an old truck will be a nightmare.

I was told a tanker company close to were I live was going to do this to 4 of there trucks. They were going to buy 4 2010 Pete's anyway and with the money they were getting to take 4 of there older trucks off the road they bought 1 more truck. I was told someone from the EPA was going to come to there shop and was to "put a hole" in the block.

The epa? would enjoy to have them over for coffee!!!! I will stay with the older models, paid for and get better fuel mileage than the newer. 1200 hp with marine injectors and supersized turbo S-60 gets the job done and with excellent mileage. :biggrin_25522:

It is almost impossible to put a 2010 in a truck that is older then 2006 model with a few exceptions to that rule. The main item that is the hold up is the dash. Some dashes operate on a different signal and you cannot always get a converter box to change the signal to the one that you need. On a cummins you change 2 50 pin connectors on the ecm to 3 60 pin connectors. Sound like fun yet. Then you have to add the DEF aftertreatment system, more wires to run. Then you have to run nox sensors, always a pain to get them to work right. So by the time you are done you may have added more wires then what you care to count and then a couple of hundred more pounds of weight just from the aftertreatment not counting the weight of the engine.
