Most GPS systems have a proximity alert, set, from 1 to 10 miles. Do not know of any that will actually announce what that alert is, only a tone and banner or pop-up display for a minute.
A lot of GPS units now have Bluetooth, and can be paired with headsets, and you can hear the directions in them Quite a few headsets now have stereo sound and cover both ears, or like the apple earbuds, again both ears. That is a bit concerning.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
In the non gps days you knew where the scales were. If you didnt that little atlas told you. The one big problem was the portables. Old Raton (US287) used to portable me all the time. I never liked them but they stood up to that Cat ticket being legal minus fuel to get there.
Now you always had enough notice for a scale for the most part. Enough to go to the right lane, knock it down to 10 below speed as if you were overloaded lugging too much, all the others gleefully fill in the 3 mile gap between you and the coop. Filling the coop enough to get the bypass as you come back up to speed. Im usually legal because I cat my loads and don't worry about it.
(One time long ago I catted a triple axle 20 foot container with ball bearings. I might still have that ticket somewhere back in the old home. It was 120+ gross, 70000 on trailer triples and the rest on the poor tractor. I think 42000 on the drives and rest on steers. The container was too heavy back there for driving on a high sloped chassis. I managed to get it back to the yard and dropped. They can have it. (I carried a license for 100K between two states but sometimes tickets were written in excess of it. Once i left container work, all that heavy stuff went away. -

Well for all u smart ##### i only asked cause when its the same beep for everything and it only last a few seconds if your in traffic and cant look up to figure out what it is the machine actually saying weigh station or lateral winds or detour or any of the above would be helpful. Maybe you all dont drive where theres terrible traffic so it dont matter to you. I have the app on my phone for the weigh stations. I only used the weigh station instead of typing all the other different POI's its alerts you about. And another thing who the hell can look at an atlas while driving id rather stay in my lane and not hit anyone trying to look at the map.

Some people don’t update their gps unit’s at all.
I update mine twice a month for road construction and other critical updates that’s needed.
I also have trucker path to look at upcoming weight stations.
Both together makes it 99.9% accurate. The other 0.1% is filled in with prepass and eye sight.Last edited: Mar 30, 2019
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
I have drivewyze which alerts me at 2 miles and 1 mile and whether I have to pull in or not i was just using the weigh station as an example as one of the POIs
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
And im pretty sure if i was doing anything illegal id make sure to take roads that dont have weigh stations. Some of you need to get your head out your ### and actually think not everyone can be perfect like u.

Also forgot to mention that I also use my phone navigation strictly for weight stations and Truck stops I want to exit.
This way I get a 10 mile warning, 2 mile warning and a 1 mile warning while keeping my main gps concentrating on the destination.
You know Incase I’m in the zone.
