That is the default setting. You can adjust it to anything you want. I selected three miles, so I don't forget about it and can start beings heads up, looking for signs.

You need to look at your route before you start driving. It can save you a lot of headaches. Youd be amazed how much it can help you even if your memory isnt so good. Use the GPS, but look at where you are going before you go. It doesnt take long. It will also help you learn the roads.

Bran new drivers never do that, they just start driving. Even after I show them like 6 times.

We pick up in a lot of dense urban areas, not a lot of room. OK so I can see from satellite view I should take the bypass and not cut straight through, that way I can approach from the right direction, make a right into the parking lot, since I can see the road is divided and I cannot turn left. I can see I need to make the right turn right before the MC Donalds and I can drive behind the plaza on the right side so Ill be angled the right way to hit the dock.

They never do it. They just start driving and then get us all messed up.

    "Bro, I passed it. Help!"
    "where do I turn at?"
    "wheres the building?"
"Bro, can I make this turn?"
"I cant get there from here."
    "I'm facing the wrong way."

You didnt check the area first, did you?
    ... Silence.
So i fix him and we do the pick up. Time to leave to the next stop. What does he do? He just starts driving again. Smh

You have no idea where you are going, do you?

As soon as they start driving I know if they are going to have a problem or not depending on if they looked at the next stop or not. I dont understand why folks wont do it. So many accidents on the fleet. A lot is due to driving where they should not be trying to go.

All us guys that have been doing it longer than a year and still have a job use satellite view for a stop we havent been to. Its automatic like muscle memory.

"You are 0.2 miles from the next stop, slow down. Slow Down! Put your 4 ways on. Which side of the road is it on? No its on the left side, the building number is odd. Look at your signs. Do you see the sign? Turn there. No Not there, its no truck sign. Turn here. Turn!! ... You missed it."

Before the invention of engine brakes "real" truck drivers just used their gears. Anyone not strictly doing things the old way and forgoing this newfangled technology is wrong and needs to be chastised.

Times change and so does technology. GPS is not a substitute for trip planing it is a smart addition to it.
