Get a good one and don't depend 100% on it. It's a tool to be used with the other maps and directions.

Its fine on the highway and for picking reast areas , truck stops , and things like that .
And make sure its a truck gps . Other wise I see a thread about a low clearance in your future. Lol:biggrin_25525:

Idk why , but I just don't trust them that much

Maybe because you've seen the various reports of people finding themselves in bad spots, even with truck specific GPS units?
GPS is a good tool, but it's not the be-all, end-all of navigation. I used to use a non truck GPS on my Android phone I had at the time to help me with route planning in conjunction with a Motor Carriers' Road Atlas, but I still called shippers and receivers for finals to their location.

the very combination that you mention WH is all that i have used in my short time out here.I have the mindset that if a shipper/consignee is not able to get me to their facility,I don't need to haul it.only a few times have i had a panicked customer return my call after i advised that i won't be loading without directions.

that prompts calls that include better than adequate directions and quite friendly interaction,as it should be regardless.I am professional as i inquire.

these gps threads are non stop.what is coming out of those schools? (as asked in a non sarcastic manner).ha!

Garmin or Rand Mcnalley...available online or at truckstops. About $400 for a 7inch, $300 for a 5inch, sometimes sold with $40 mail in rebate. and as others have said, it's a tool, learn how to use it correctly.

I'll be honest... I came out of one of those schools (although it was still slightly before GPS was as widespread and readily available as it is today). I think it really comes down more to follow up training and, perhaps most importantly, the mindset and mentality one goes into this industry with. You look at people graduating today, some won't make it, some will go on to be successful, and they'll probably look at the industry and new drivers ten years or so down the road the way we do now.

If using any gps, look waay ahead. If it don't look right, don't enter.
They will all lead you down some hog trails, eventually.
I went 20 plus miles last week on a road that was supposed to be
truck friendly.Needless to say I pulled a diamond outta my butt,
when I finally got to the end.It was exciting, and I enjoyed the new scenery.
Im also looking to update, but can't find any consistant good reviews.
    Im leaning towards Rand McNally.
