Hey all,
I recently took 70hours of One on One Driving with North Shore Driving School and Got my Class 1 With Air.
Ive been looking for jobs like crazy and sending resumes like crazy and Find that I cant get hired with out experience!
While there are a few places like Challenger that take on trainees, there isnt alot of options for me in the Vancouver area, Mind you there are Hundreds of Jobs needed to be filled!
Any suggestions would help!
Much Appreciated.

You will probably have to go to places like Challenger(could be worse) just to get experience before you will have much luck finding something else.If you find a company that's willing to train you then go for it because your 70 hours isn't much to go with.

Tried Challenger but They dont deal with North Shore Driving School,They also have a waiting list of trainees well into December but I was told by Challenger Recruiter that they are great at NSDS.
Im almost willing to Volunteer for Exp! -
Don't do that, too many guys willing to work for next to nothing already!Raiderfanatic Thanks this. -
No don't volunteer. NO.. don't even consider it.
I was in your position last november, graduated - sent out a hundred resumes and heard nothing back, a 0 hour (not including class time) is a huge insurance risk.
When you're trucking its all about going out and pounding on doors. Figure out what type of work you want to do then go stand in their office. Does your school help with placement?
If you want to stick around your local area, hit up courier companies / bus lines etc who are looking for drivers. If you want to take the plunge, do what I did - head to the oil field. Sanjel (who I work for) schlumberger, haliburton, cal frac, gas frac et al are always hiring, especially now - even though the spring season has dragged on way too long because of the rain it seems every company here is ramping up and looking for drivers.
You'll have to do some leg work, but it'll pay off.Fitzyguy Thanks this. -
I had a meeting with a company 40 minutes away, They will pay 18$ to start with benefits in 3 months.
First I must do a week of no paid training and driving with a Driver of their company. Im not a big fan of doing a week of free service
but i haven't had any chances till now, and I think By getting experience for now the doors will open more further along.

Ask them how much they are reporting what your income is to Workers' Comp in case of an accident.
Irregardless, your are by law entitled to pay for hours worked even if it's at Minimum Wage. I don't think I would bother with them. If that's the best they can offer you, I don't see iy any better down the road. -
As a matter of fact, you are entitled to payment for all hours spent in orientation as it is considered to be "On Duty".snafu Thanks this.

Don't work for free.. That is complete BS and is illegal... I would never work for a company who wants me to work for 1 week free... They are getting paid to deliver the loads your going out on, they can pay you to deliver them.. Regardless of who is driving the truck. which I am sure you should be since you would be training.. Even if they only pay you min wage.. I smell SCAM !!!!
snafu Thanks this. -
the heroes who tell you not to work for free are also employed
a week to get your foot in the door isn't very long
better then doing nothing
before i had this job unemployment was paying me $225/week my biggest requirement was to make more then that
i'm just saying
