Glad I could help. This place is pretty useful. I enjoy being on here as it keeps me in touch with an industry that I enjoy.

 

There are companies out there that do nuttin but check information on applications. I used to work for one. I hated it but that's besides the point. You put down the info one the application and they call around to these businesses, schools, and references to see if what you put down is correct. If you report a gap in your employment the most of the time you have to provide a reference of someone who can verify what you were doing in that time frame.

 

Thanks again, I start C1 Dec. 8, Thanks to you and this site I feel I'm ready for the pro's and con's of the industry, I'll be going to USA Truck and I'm going in with a positive attitude. I already went and got my CDL-A Permit with my dbl./trpl. and tanker endorsements to get a jump on the class. I didn't get my HAZMAT because I here the company will pay for it, do you know this to be true.

 

I was with the raiload since I was 17, after I left (with a retirement) I took 16 months off to work on the family ranch, lived on my savings (not retirement) and folks paid me cash, so that is my only gap, well maybe 2 years total that I have to verify.

 

I've heard that some companies will pay for the hazmat if a driver doesn't have it and the company requires it. That's one that I'm not up on as well as some other things.

 

I've studied my ars off for the hazmat so I could pass it the first time, Im affraid if I dont take It now I will have to study it all over again a few months down the road...

 

If you have the money to do it, go ahead and get it. It could mean the difference between having miles and not having miles someday. There was another thread about hazmat on here not too long ago. Found it. There are some good answers in this one about the topic.

Mule- definately get your hazmat... just realize it's gonna cost almost $100 for the background check and prints...

I'm about to start school, and I have already taken my hazmat, doubles and tanker endorsements.... if I'm lucky, my hazmat will be approved and waiting for me as I graduate! (knock on wood)

Also have the renewal for my passport (card) in the mail as a lot of freight out of Michigan goes to Canada.
