You have to download and install the TND Dock and do the updates. If it is a 710 LTM (life time maps) are still available for purchase.

It did last time. I charged it for 3 hours and it showed full battery. You thinking bad charger or battery?

When it shut off after a few days... was it on DC? Take the USB end of the DC cord and lightly squeeze it... it will provide a more snug fit. Squeeze on the long parts...

    Thanks,
    Mark

Yes it was on DC when it failed.
I squeezed the USB end as requested.
I just downloaded the docking software and during installation it prompts me to connect the device. I connect the device to my laptop and it doesn't detect the GPS however the red light illuminates on the GPS unit. There's nothing wrong with my USB port. I tested with a thumb drive and it's good. I don't think it's a bad USB cable because I'm getting a red light on the GPS. Guess I could try another cable tomorrow and see what happens.

Make sure it is a RM USB cable. On the USB port pins 1 and 5 provide power, but pins 2, 3, and 4 are the communication ports.

Make sure the power settings on the computer is on high.

The TND should show "Connected" on the screen.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Does the USB cable charge the unit or is it only to connect to a PC for updates? I think the user (my neighbor) had it plugged into a cigarette lighter USB charging adapter while its in his truck.

    Thanks for your time!

The DC must provide 5vdc/2 amp for the 7" TND. If it provides 1 amp, then it may run for a little while and you will get freezing due to lack of power.

The USB cord is used only for connection to the computer and not a charging source.

    AC - normally 3 hours
    DC - normally 6-9 hours.

    Thanks,
    Mark
