Great Device if it fits you..!

I run what's called 'Express' runs; which means, slips trucks every time out and run til 70 hrs is about up and then home time for 4-5 days. I started taking my 'good' CB (top-of-the-line Uniden with all the whistles & bells, 5' antenna, and matching cable), but found to cumbersome to install each time, even with a vice-grip mount. Typically, the antennas in the slipped trucks were beat up and many didnt even work (Centurys then I got were close to resale at 500-600K miles). So, since not a CB lover to just jaw and hear whiney drivers complain about everything, I went to a cheap $45 Handheld from Wal-mart. Needed something to p/u road conditions from passing drivers and to deals with customers. Problem was, the 4 watt rubber ducky antenna had close to 'no range' in the truck and many scales had their squelches set so high they couldnt hear me!!

So a great thing happened---it died after 3 years!! Started looking for another handheld to replace and came across this one at Wal-mart for $89. It is both battery (4 x 1.5v AA), has separate charger and charging pack for rechargeable batts, and cig lighter hookup for Mobile base as normal CB with std antenna connection---so small the whole thing is slightly larger than a microphone.

Now this isnt for everybody, the person who has a permanent truck may not need (altho can be pulled out and batt pk plugged in for carrying on body), but if want an easily movable CB to meet your needs, this is a great concept!!! I'm sure the 'supertruckers' with hundreds of watts linears will poo-poo it...ha ha

I have this same radio. I was looking for something small to move from truck to truck. I just bought a new Tacoma and didn't want to mount a full size CB in it. I have it hooked up to 3ft K40 ant. and I can hear the tire shop near my house from more than 40 miles away and can talk around 10 miles away with it. I was looking at the Cobra version of it as well since I love cobra radios, but the battery box for this thing sold me. I can unplug it and move it to my car when I need to with the little whip. I haven't used the battery boxes with it yet, but I like the possibility of having one radio fill two functions.

Actually, I'm right by the tire shop at exit 188, Big A is at exit 201, about 15 miles from me. I hear them both all the time.

Does the Midland handheld have to be tuned to the antenna like a regular CB or is it good to go out of the box?

    Thanks Fo rthe info Jam.
Found out today, and didn't really think about it before, that my company when they issue you a truck, there's no CB.
Well that bumbed me out today, I know alot of yards, scales, and docks need to call you on it.
So I was gonna ask about info on a good radio. This looks perfect till I get my own truck.
I don't need a whole lot of range, just enough to get me by, cause I can't stand most of the Jaw Jacking in rest/truck stops.
