I was wondering if its a good idea to buy a 33,000lb single axle truck with a 15 foot flatbed to run a 40 foot goose-neck flatbed. It seems like you could find TONS of loads and save yourself money. I never looked at a load board in my life, but heck your truck can do 8 to 9 tons on the bed and then even more on the goose-neck. What kind of loads are out there for this kind of setup and is it more versatile than buying yourself a tractor trailer? I'm just bored and looking to talk about this.:biggrin_2558:

  3. Lots of states won't let you run that. They include the truck's bed and the trailer length as total loadable length and you'd be at 55 feet. You won't pull that through MO without problems.

Check carefully. I know some guys who had that same idea and they are now back with regular tractors and trailers.

They all told me the laws for that set up vary so much from place to place that you had to be real careful about where you went and what you did.

IF it was such a great deal, I think you'd be seeing more of them out on the road.

You make a good point, we have one at work and it gets a TON of use, but its all in PA and I do believe if you ran that set up outside of PA and the oilfields you would run into trouble. I just wanted to see what you guys thought of them, seems that the one here at work is always loaded even if some of our tractor trailers may sit for a day, it doesnt.

Why would you be saving money with this set-up ? You can't load a gooseneck that heavy, plus you're talking a single screw tractor ? Not a good idea, IMO.
