    Greetings Everyone!

Well, I have a friend that has offered to train me (former company trainer for a small trucking company in WI) and when I am done I will have my CDL-A

I can't tell you how happy I am that I don't have to sign my life away to a company for their "training."

Now my question is - what companies should I be looking at applying to with this new CDL and no real OTR expieriance since I'm not affiliated with any company? (keeping in mind I live in the northeast)

    I appreciate your comments!

    ~Jason

Most companies want you to go to a school

Actually, most companies want you to have experience. So...stay with your friend's company for at least one year and then you can go almost anywhere.

Not really if you have good references and a year under your belt it's pretty easy to get hired at most places. Danny

He wasn't very specific about the training arrangement . A lot of questions there but sounds like he will only get enough experience to get his CDL . No company or job was mentioned .

You will be very limited and will not have the choices that a acrredited school would create. The problem will be insurance. Even after you go to a company after school you would need to go on a trainer truck before you upgrade to solo.

Thanks guys, for what I would have to pay for the increased insurance with my buddy, I am just going to go to a local school.

Finaly found a local school that has student financial aid - so I wont have to lock myself into a contract.

Thanks for the comments, I'm sure I'll have plenty more questions between now and then!
