Hey,
I've only had my CDL for 2 years. Started with Con-way LTL right out of CDL School then took time off from 14+ hour days when the wife got pregnant. Haven't been in a truck since (driving Charter Coaches and other CDL buses) and can't say that I'm missing long work days, but with the economy what it is....
Answered an ad for Greatwide Logistics on a local (or rather home daily) Kroger account, just looking for any insight as to what to expect. Will be going in as a company driver and can't ever seeing going into a O/O as I don't want to be driving for 10-20 years. This is a short term financial plan (~5 years max), recruiter claims $800-1000/wk pay which isn't bad for my neck of the woods if I can be home every night.
Anyone ever work this account?

I work there currently...but not for long. As a company driver, the pay has decreased dramaticaly since new management has come in within the past year. I have over 21 years driving under my belt and have never been treated this way from other companies all this time. They tell u what u want to hear to keep u here just for the time-being. Year ago we had 25 company drivers. Now we have only 9 including myself. All cause of poor management. Cant live on only 200 miles or less per day, not to mention, never a pay raise in 4 years. It will always be .41 per mile. They prioritize 75% of the loads to their favorite fleet owners. They will always get the cream-of-the-crop loads. The only time that I have ever been lied to this much, was when I used to deal with a few brokers that only stole from me years ago. Here, if u want to make the money they say...u must constantly argue, yell and nag on a daily basis and hope they listen to u for the next day. Tomorrow I am on 2 runs totaling 238 paid miles. There r many better companies out there, but to each their own. Take care and good luck. Hope this helps. God Bless.

Gotcha, still in the planning stages so I'll definitely take that into account. Curiosity - how long is your work day on ~200 mile days?
-
well, just did my day. was a little over 200 miles with 2 stops. started at 3am...ended at 4:45 pm. usually takes 12 to 14 hours on the norm.

Best off applying with FirstFleet. They r here at the Kroger acct also, along with u s express. FirstFleet is the best to work for. Pay is better and stability is much better. Their pay is 50-55,000 per year. u can apply with them online at Firstfleet.com. go to dedicated, kroger delaware,oh. Dont want to see others making the same mistake that I have, specially with a little one on the way. Hope this helps u. Good Luck

16 hour shifts, wait at the dc as much as 6 hrs for the trailer since atlas logistics that loads the trailers is so bad they can't get any people. that wait time is on your own since they wan't you to log off the e-log when your day ends and when your next shift begins drive on over with out logging back in and sit and wait. they will give ya 10 an hour while waiting though. if you can't get back by the 16th hour they want you to sleep in the truck with no apu and a 5 minute idle limit. its 24 365 so your 10 can be at 0800, but most of the time depending on load your 10 is between 1400 and 0400. so called shop is 0500 to1800 m-f. horrible trucks. gooooooooooooooooooooood luck pal.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a complete pain in the ### so I passed on the job offer. I wound up going into what be an equally horrible job (rolling beer) but it's at least consistent. Labor intensive for sure, but home (so far) by about 5 pm every day. Not something I'd do for a long term career, but as mentioned earlier - this is pretty much a couple year plan. Company is pretty small and actually pretty light work MWF (TT suck for sure). Paid hourly rather than by the mile with weeks going ~45-50 (54 this week). It won't buy the yacht I've always wanted, but it will get me the last 18k I owe on my house..
Lonesome Thanks this. -
