Hello everyone, I’m still researching the trucking field as I need a professional change in life and CDL is something I’ve pondered for many years. Even when I was temping on garbage trucks (which I actually enjoyed) and that was twelve years ago. Happy to have found you!
My initial question concerns a class B misdemeanor (from 2013-2014?) to which I did not admit guilt to, and was not convicted of... As crazy as it sounds, it involved a piece of candy that an overzealous gas station clerk was positive I took from his counter. I retained a lawyer for trial, but ultimately settled for a little community service, because I didn’t trust a jury of twelve total strangers to make the right decision.
I’ve yet to have that fiasco of bogus expunged, but it’s the only thing and I’m nearly forty. I’m wondering how significant this might be going forward - either in pursuing the carrier training route or in future employment. Thanks for any input in advance!![]()
Greetings and Initial Question...

If you have been clean since that, you probably have much good you have done, focus on the good. We all have done something long ago that might haunt us if we let it. Move forward and be honest, do not place blame on others on any of the past, own it and have plans for going forward doing good. Past is gone, gear up for the future.
homeskillet and LateNightCable Thank this. -
unless you are on active supervised probation, or the conviction was drug or alcohol-related you have nothing to worry about from a misdemeanor.
-
No drugs/alcohol, no convictions, and no probation. Just a charge.
-
This is true!
Some companies are good to go with drug and alcohol convictions also.
Where is your location?
Do you want trucking company school? -
@Chinatown I’m in the Florida Keys but expect to relocate within the year - with the ultimate goal of moving west of the Rockies, so I’m wide open for schooling.
I’d consider a company school, especially if it leads to tanker work for obvious reasons ($).Dan.S Thanks this.
