I pay 60/40 split after we both deduct workers comp, parking at the company yard(25 a week), fuel and tolls

I pay the bobtail insurance and maintnence. No truck payments so that helps out.
My driver doesnt "run" that hard but he takes care of the truck. We are leased at the ports and he seems happy.
FYI, we net about 1800-2400 a week

I guess when the truck is wore out beyond use you'll just quit then?
Just cause truck doesn't have a payment means noting, it will have to be replaced or refurbished.
So when calculating operating expense a smart person would always factor that in.

It works out for Desi because he's taking 60, that extra 10 is covering it

50/50 after only fuel would be an idiot move by the owner.
Who in their right mind is going to pay someone half of the money and them not having zero invested ?
The closet to that I've ever heard of is 60/40 and driver buys all the fuel for some of the panther expedited vans.
And if you can't guess the vans are junk and the drivers really don't make that much.
So either you didn't listen, read the contract well or the owner may not have explained well.
Average driver pay runs 25% or 35-50cents per mile.
The only difference between 1099 worker and a W2 employee is 7.5% FICA .
    1099 is better if you're creative .

    Your correct
    I have a 2006 freightliner
I think it's in very good condition actually
As you know next year my truck will not be able to enter the ports so I am looking to upgrade

The way some of the ports are run seems backwards. Buy newer trucks to get tore to pieces?
Or do they treat trucks better in the ports now?

Just when I think I have seen every permutation as to how a driver can be paid something new comes along.
