im sure this man would have begged to differ.

    http://www.kansascity.com/2014/02/13/4820546/missing-arizona-trucker-identified.html

    or how about this instance?

    https://www.indiawest.com/news/14926-two-arrested-for-murder-in-turlock-truck-driver-s-death.html

i cant find any links but I've heard numerous reports from truck drivers about thugs in L.A. sliding under your sleeper at night and firing armor piercing rounds up into the sleeper killing the driver and then stealing his truck, trailer and cargo.

among the many other numerous truck hijackings that happen.

these companies take away a person's God given right to defend themselves. but offer nothing in the way of security for the driver.

And the women out there driving are even more susceptible to violent acts such as rape, sexual assault and kidnapping.

I hope one day someone will stand up against these companies and file a lawsuit and either force the companies to allow concealed carry on the truck and on their person in accordance with state laws or if not that at least force them to provide them with the option of getting an armed security officer escort on their truck.

premise liability laws are as close a comparison as I can find, but if an apt complex forbids possession of firearms on their property, then by law they must make reasonable accomodations to provide additional security such as fences, gated entrances and exits, normal patrols, extra lighting, emergency call boxes and security personnel. same should be true in trucking. if you cant guarantee my safety whild I do work for your company then I SHOULD by all accounts be allowed to arm myself and protect myself.

think of it like this. if you are in your sleeper and someone hits your truck, the first thing the company wants to know is who hit the truck. they expect you to know and get up and find out.

its also in your policy handbook not to leave your truck and trailer unlocked, and to put your locks on your tractor and trailer brake knobs at night when parked. GLAD locks on your airlines. they expect YOU to mitigate any and all losses by doing these things to prevent theft, otherwise YOU can be held accountable for such losses.

so on that note I just dont get why they wouldnt want their driver armed to ensure his/her safety as well as to provide additional security at no extra charge to the company for the truck, trailer and cargo.

simply placing a weapon or even what "appears" to be a weapon in plain view on a counter, a dash, a table as a means of "deterrent" can still get one in a LOT of trouble.

many laws consider this brandishing a weapon, felony menacing and even in some states it is consideded felony aggravated assault.

be very very careful. it doesnt take a gun for this to become a criminal charge, just anything that can be considered a weapon.

the best thing if you are going to carry is to, in my opinion would be to utilize an inside the waistband holster and carry a compact or sub-compact type of handgun that is not bulky or large or medium in frame. something that is easily concealable and comfortable to wear even while sitting in a seat and driving for extended periods of time.

wear denim jeans (not shorts or capris or yoga pants or khakis) a size or two larger in the waist to cloak most of the bulk of the firearm.

wear a belt to hold your jeans in place so there are no "accidental" slips.

wear a dark colored shirt that extends down several inches past your waist/belt line. dark colored shirts will hide the outline of the frame of the handgun and/or holster. dark colors create shadows. shadows break up hard lines which will keep the outline of the weapon from showing. Light colors may inadvertently allow the weapon or holster to be seen through the shirt.

do NOT tuck your shirt in. this will make it obvious you are carrying as the frame will be outlined. loose fitting shirts a size or two larger than normal will cloak it quite well.

long hoodies, jackets or coats in the winter help with concealment as well.

use the small of your back or your hip area to position your holster. on most iwb holsters, the cant (angle of carry) can be adjusted to make it less noticeable.

Theis and Crossbreed both make great inside the waistband holders that are adjustable and comfortable and conceal nicely.

this way short of going through metal detectors or a physical search of your person...no one will ever know but you. it wont "accidentally" get left lying around, or if you forget to hoylster up at the terminal and go inside and the Safety Manager decides to inspect the interior of your truck for compliance he isnt going to find it lying around anywhere by accident.

handguns are like parachutes...if you dont have one and find yourself needing one...chances are you arent ever going to have another need for either one again...because you wont be alive.

as stated, dont talk about it or advertise it. dont tell your friends, family or any co-worker EVER. you dont KNOW who is your friend and who isnt. people will sell you out in a heartbeat just because they dont like you. or dont like how well you do your job because you make them look bad or lazy.

dont leave it laying around. keeping it on your person at all times is the best place for it. because no one but the law can search your person. and if you dont give the law a reason to search you, you have nothing to worry about and if its on your person, then there is no risk of anyone ever finding it by accident or it being accidentally discovered in your truck.

dont show it. dont brag about it. dont talk about your newest purchase or build. dont even discuss guns with your trainer or coworkers or boss or dispatcher, dont talk 2A rights or politics, just flee from that conversation like a scared cur dog. tell them you hate guns and want nothing to do with such a conversation concerning them and that it is off limits because of personal beliefs. they will think you're an anti-gun liberal and leave you alone. thats the way you want it when it comes to guns. let them think it. less attention, less suspicion.

I vote for national carry rights for everybody. AND, employers can't preempt this law!

Just eat the chicken fried steak from Petro. Then you'll be able to unleash chemical warfare on your assailant.

Be careful, a gun tattoo might not be a good idea either...:biggrin_25512:

    FROM MAINE:

Norridgewock man with gun tattoo wakes up to armed police
Police said workers with Lucas Tree Experts mistook Michael Smith’s tattoo for a real gun when he appeared outside shirtless Tuesday morning.

"The tattoo of the life-size handgun is positioned on Smith’s body to look as if the barrel of the gun is tucked into the waist of his pants. He said he doesn’t regret getting it, even though this isn’t the first time the tattoo has been the focus of police attention."
