I've done it in the past, stopped at a small Pilot (CB Ia.) and the only spot open was where a CR England driver had backed past the middle line into my spot to keep even with the front of the trucks next to him but taking about 6 ft of my spot.

I very gently bumped him intentionally and the guy came out and acted like I threw him into the windshield and didn't understand at all why I needed to use all the room I could and didn't want to pull up to get out of my spot. He actually wanted to file an accident report. Had I caused any damage at all I would have agreed to it but since nothing was hurt I pulled my trailer away from his and told him he must have had a bad dream... I didn't hit anything... prove it.

I've had drivers bump my trailer and if there's no damage it's not worth causing anyone trouble... just don't hit my truck.

BTDT many times, from both sides. Had a rookie 'kiss' my trailer in Effingham once. Honestly thought the kid was gonna cry, he was so tired and scared...I took the poor bugger inside for coffee and a hot meal. He was a Swift driver, and it didn't look like he had a decent meal or sleep in a few days. Bear in mind this was back in the day when Swift had a tendency to burn out their new drivers to make room for the next batch of suckers, and ran the ever-loved double nickle...I did him a favor, and 'broke' his truck so he could get some sleep. I wonder if the ol' Swift eer figgered out who sliced apart their airlines? The kid was extremely grateful...and still owes me a cuppa coffee, ######! I joke, of course. About the coffee, any way. I wonder if that kid ever did stick around long enough to become a vet? And if so, which company he jumped to?

It happens, but it can be prevented. I always park in the single rows, but the few times I get stuck parking like that, I'll get out of the truck several times the closer I get. I never bumped one. I go out of my way to make sure I don't.

If the bumper apologizes, all is fine. The back of the trailer is tough. It's the butts that stay in their truck and act like nothing happened when it becomes a problem. Drivers have been called on and fired over it because you did hit another truck. And that's how a safety dept will look at it. It's best you all keep it to yourself if you can. They'll do better next time.

Do check your hinges though. I have seen them get damaged before.

OK, I watched a guy the other night do a great job of backing in, then proceeded to continue backing up till he " bumped" the trailer behind him. Then he pulled up just a bit. HUH? Since when did parking by sonar become a recognized, and accepted practice?Guess I missed that memo! Have I ever done it? NOPE! Do I stop, walk back to see how much further I have when "it's dark and hard to see"? EVERY TIME!
An accident is something that happens when something just slips in there, didn't see it, or missed it in the mirrors. Backing up till you hit, bump, or bang something is PURE LAZINESS.

When I have doubt, after I get out and look,I lay my tire thumper on the ground outside my door with the amount of room I have to be there where I need to be.

Two things that are a truckers worst enemies are complacency and laziness.

I don't back into other trucks....But of somebody backs in and lightly bumps the back of my trailer, Who cares?
I don't expect an apology or any reaction at all from the guy.
Why do we need to turn everything into a federal case these days? So the guy "bumped" your trailer...As long as he didn't hit you hard enough to damage it, What's the big deal?

When I backing up into a spot, as I get closer to the other trailer, I have my 4 way's going and you could see the reflection of the 4 way's on the other trailer as your getting closer the 4way's get smaller(reflection) thats when you know your close enough. And if I need to get closer, I get out and walk it to check out the distance.

I do something similar to Dave. Only I use my brake lights. Just rest my foot on the pedal enough to activate the lights. Yes, it drags the brakes a little. But, when you're in North Dakota in January and it's time to go, you push in your brake and go. While the guy who didn't drag his brakes is under his trailer with a hammer.

I get out and look too...but I've still bumped a couple of trailers over the years.

Its best to NOT do it...but if you do...make sure its just a bump (not a CRASH, CRUNCH...OH $H1T!)

What i do , if there no overhead light nearby, i will also use my brake lights and get out a dozen times too look or more, i never hit one yet, but that dosn't mean it wont happen, now i had my trl hit, i was parked on the row, nosed in, why, becuse next too me was the driveway, , so if i had back in , would've been much worst, becuse this driver cut the corner, hit my trl , snapped of three door hinges and layed me out the floor of my truck and this driver keep on trucking, everyboby was running over after they seen it,still had too file a police report for my company, safety wanted, didnt go on my record or anything , i was upfront about it , they put in shop, replace the hinges and rub some of the black paint off and made my dock time so i never park on the end again and keep going till i find a decent place too park, after that.
