Ive been around on the forums awhile now but i dont post or comment too much. The issue im having is that i cant figure out what i wanna do. I have options though. "i am not driving at the moment" I drove 5 months for prime and then left cause i wanted to be closer to home. So i went to a regional company out of upstate ny and i was let go from there for a no fault accident in New Jersey (which for some reason is not on my DAC) lol dosent make any sense.. I was offered a dedicated position driving for werner on a dollar general account which would get me home every weekend. To me it sounds good, but for some reason it didnt set well with me. Yesterday i had an interview for a local trash company the pay is crap (11hr) but i would work 12 hour days and still have weekends off. Also i got a call from schneider 2 days ago but couldnt talk too long with her due to my cell phone kept losing signal. And as far as the werner thing goes i tolled the recruiter i had to take care of some things .. At the moment i work for wal mart overnight and i work fast food during the day.. I am married to the most awesome woman in the world but she says im being way to skeptical and i keep giving excuses instead of picking something and goin with it. But because i was fired over stupid crap at my last driving job of course im gonna be nervous about anything new. i paid a great deal for my cdl and dont want it to go to waste. So sorry about the rambling guys. Just some insight would be greatly appreciated
guys im so confused need some advice..

Your best bet is to stray away from OTR carriers if you want more home time. -
ahh ok i see.. i did otr and i brought it up to the wife and now she is very against me going otr.. dont understand why she tells me its her anxiety lol

*sigh*
It takes a strong man/woman to be a trucker's squeeze. Anxiety? Really? My advice to her, woman to woman: Put on your big girl panties and grow up! Do ya want hubby around the house all the time or do you want to eventually be able to live a decent life? In order for the bucks to come rolling in, a certain level of experience is required to land that gravy job. Support hubby in getting there or remain right where you are forever.
Advice to hubby trucker: Schneider is probably your best option out of the choices presented. I would be calling that lady back and getting more information on that job. Yes, it's OTR. However, I have not heard a huge number of complaints from their drivers. Everybody seems to be pretty happy.
Werner/Dollar General is a lot of hard work. You will be fingerprinting every case of merchandise to the tailgate of the truck. It's always little stuff, floor loaded and usually multiple stops on a truck. Some folks love that kind of work. I wouldn't mind it myself if I wouldn't take three days recovering from it. Arthritis is a real b****, you know.
Too bad you left Prime so quickly. They have the contract for the Lewiston, ME WalMart DC. If wife is adamant about remaining in the NorthEast/New England region, it would have been ideal. I'm on a WM dedicated account and could, if I chose to, be home three times each week. My ol man and I tend to fuss at each other if I'm pottering around the house too much, so I choose to be home once per week for my reset. I like being happy to see him, and him being happy to see me....rather than, "Oh, you again. Don't forget to close the door all the way. Did ya grab some firewood on your way in?" -
Adam, consider this for a moment. With the thousands of existing drivers Werner has and couple that with their prestigious Dollar General account WHY would they give an unknown (you) an opportunity to do that work on a dedicated basis. Chances are is SUX and they need new fish to cover it because the experienced/knowlegeable drivers refuse to.
Go work @ an LTL carrier as was suggested to you. Much better pay than OTR, much better benefits than OTR, much better pension than OTR....it's just a much better job! -
