even still, this is why I’m not replying to this thread, other then I will say most break downs on older trucks are from half ### repairs, you cannot be afraid to spend money

Now that I will agree with. The majority of my repairs in the beginning were fixing other guy's half ### jobs.

On our gliders with a 60 series its been a/c compressors. They lock up and burn the belt.
The next issue has been coolant lines.. mainly the ones coming from the oil cooler housing. Stupid fitting design.

Valve bridge broke on the 99 90 miles from the yard cost 950 for a hook. Had a barrel on the injection pump crack on the 93 50 miles from the yard. 400 tow bill.

Give the older Mack CH's a look. 91-97 were absolutely bullet proof 1 million mile plus engines. Same mpg as a 60 series and easy to work on. 98-03 were solid too. They had cam issues but they've been fixed by now

Right now all the megas are keeping theirs longer because the chip shortage = no new trucks. For example, Prime used to sell their trucks around 300-400k. . They don't even have trucks for sale now because they are keeping them into the 500-600k range.

Honestly, this is the part that scares me the most about older trucks. Is getting the electronics refreshed if needed. I guess it's mostly just hand-built wiring harnesses but what if you can't get the plugs or something.

    JoeyJunk and blairandgretchen Thank this.
