Not everyone shares your sentiments. Forcing them to follow your train of thought is not very freedom-like. You're weaponizing the government to force your will on others when you push for sweeping laws that effect everyone.

If you want a 30 minute break, take one but not everyone does and you can't even see that nor respect their choice. You could have taken a break any time you wanted without it needing a law passed to do so.

It merely brings us in line with every other job.

Anyone being forced to do anything is because that person doesn’t have a backbone.

Why must every job need to be in line with themselves? Why can't people be left to make their own decisions without someone else doing it for them?

After being on an ELD since the mandate, granted I did a lot of stuff that was exempt up until 2021 and had a ton of flexibility, now that I’m on a time card and we’ve been HOS exempt since I started hauling fuel in May, I’ve been reminded how nice it is to be able to do things how you want, stop when you want, etc.

What does it have have to do with having a backbone when you try not to lose your job that keeps you fed and housed? When you have a family to take care of? Any number of things may force your hand in that kind of situation. Having a backbone may lead you to take risks in order to protect yourself and your family.

Because without the regulations we go back to children in the mines. That was perfectly reasonable back in the olden days. Would you be fine with a 10 year old working in a mine or a textile mill instead of going to school?

The HOS are the true issue. When I started in 98 they had good flexible options but those days are gone and the ELD makes drivers run themselves ragged. Now, more than ever carriers are pushing drivers to their limits because there's no pause button.

I'm sure you're appreciating hourly more than ever. Nice to get paid for your actual time instead of having your labor stolen through mileage, percentage or load pay scams.

I don’t know. Maybe I’ve just been lucky and fell into good jobs or leased to good carriers when I had my trucks. I never felt like my job was in danger when I told someone that whatever they were asking wasn’t going to happen.

I’m on percentage, time card is only to satisfy the 150 mile radius exemption. But I am more than happy with what my pay averages out to when you divide my hours into it.
