    So you prefer over revving the engine, causing unneeded wear, and wasting fuel to using cruise control for its intended purpose?

    The engine overhaul you are racing towards is a $7-10K minimum expense for your boss. Running down the road at max RPM's in a lower gear might also knock you down into the 4 mpg range instead of being up around 6 mpg. That 2 mpg difference at $4/gallon adds up to around $1000/week if you are running 3000 miles per week.

    If you were my driver, you would be fired about 1/2 a second after I found out how you were driving my truck, and I'd be sure to let anyone who asked the reason for the termination know that it was for equipment abuse.

    Remember, you have a job because your employer thought it would be profitable to hire you. If you aren't making a profit for your boss, you won't have a job for very long.

    Generic, keeping to the speed limit or slightly over is one important aspect of driving in order to protect your CDL. I think what most folks responding to this thread are alluding to is the importance of driving the truck within the "sweet spot", or the rpm's and boost (turbo psi) that will give the best fuel mileage and engine life.

    If you don't have a user's manual on the truck I recommend you find and download the pdf version and read through it. For example, I just got into a brand new KW T680 and there were a number of manuals, one for the truck, one for the transmission, one for the jake brake, etc. Read them and get to know the truck. In my truck the best operating rpm is 1250, with the high end of the range at 1400 and the low end at 1100. If your truck has a way to display current mpg that can help determine your "sweet spot".

    Cruise control can save a LOT of fuel for most drivers. If your cruise only disengages for a short time by tapping the brakes, then you really should take it to a shop. On the open road use it. Drive the truck as if you owned it. While you may not be getting a fuel bonus, even company drivers get financially penalized by spending a few days without income while their truck is in the shop from over revving the engine.

    One last point is that I rarely "floor it", even starting from a stop light. I'll get into maximum boost on the turbo when I'm climbing a sustained, steep hill or really need it to accelerate and merge onto a freeway, other than that I try to keep the accelerator about halfway and have very small movements of the foot. It's surprising how much fuel can be saved that way and how much wear and tear on the truck can be avoided by not flooring it all the time.

    Good post thank you for the patient, detailed response. I will fetch the manual online and read it when i get a chance. And i will have to find another way to regulate my speed. I have read alot of your other posts lepton1 and i like the way you think and respect your opinion.

    Not all trucks do that. My '12 Mack didn't shut off the cruise when I hit the brakes. As soon as my foot vame off the brake, the truck sped up again. Fortunately, I don't use the cruose that much.

    whatever point that you made it by replying. LESSON #1 on becoming a forum rambo or a cb radio rambo-never inject your comments unless you can out smartarse the comment you are commenting on. double yellow is obviously an experienced smartarse as he didn't reply to your inquiry. had you wondering,huh?

    had you ignored the post and the picture,you'd have at least maintained an even keel. now we all know that you were jolted by the post and the black dude wearing a do rag picture.you now need to start some cb rambo stuff up on the radio so you can feel better.
